4 Chemicals Found in Tap Water That Are Putting Your Family at Risk

Have you ever imagined that it could be dangerous to drink a glass of water? Every municipal water supply in the country and many around the world, have tested positive for a wide range of dangerous chemical toxins. The presence of these chemicals are the reason the need for filtered tap water has never been greater. As such, I'd like to give you some general information about 4 chemicals found in tap water and what you can do to reduce your family’s risk.

1. Chlorine

Chlorine has been used since the turn of the 20th century. Over 100 years later, municipal water systems continue to use this disinfectant on contaminated water that requires filtration.

Chlorine has also become a health liability because of its corrosive nature when it comes into contact with old house pipes. This corrosion causes the leaching of lead and other dangerous heavy metals into your tap water.

2. Pharmaceutical drugs

Everything that passes through the human body will eventually end up on our water supplies. As a result, scientists are beginning to detect traces of antibiotics, contraceptives, antidepressants and a whole host of other prescription drugs.

Medical experts are still studying the long-term effects of this type of chemical exposure. These drugs are bad enough, but again, they are being mixed with traces of other chemicals found in tap water.

This is another reason drinking filtered tap water makes sense.

3. Pesticides

Chemical contamination from agricultural runoff is one of the biggest offenders of chemicals found in tap water. Farmers protect their crops from insect infestation with the use of chemical pesticides. These poisons are absorbed into the ground, where they eventually make it into the water table.

Since the majority of city water treatment systems continue to rely on chlorine disinfection instead of filtration, it falls on the individual consumer to protect themselves against these pesticides by drinking filtered tap water.

4. Lawn Chemicals and Cleaning Supplies

I'm sure you've heard the saying, "better living through chemistry." Products for keeping our lawns green and lush and our homes clean and sparkling have dominated the household market for many years. Its only been recently that scientists have begun to question the wisdom of using the these chemically-based products for our homes. Not only do they create direct exposure to potentially harmful toxins, these chemicals go down the drain or are absorbed into the ground where they, too, become chemicals found in tap water.

The increasing prevalence of potentially harmful toxins, combined with the inability of our city treatment systems to remove them, makes a very strong case for providing filtered tap water for our families.

In conclusion, if you decide that you want on of these water filtration systems in your home, you need to do some simple research. Not all home filters are created equal.

You want to find filtration appliances that are designed to remove a wide range of synthetic organic chemicals, along with chlorine and intestinal parasites.

The systems for providing the best filtered tap water will also leave natural mineral content intact. This way your family will be getting water that is HEALTHY, as well as, safe and pure.
