Get Your Boiler Serviced Before the Winter Rush!

There is no getting away from the fact that your boiler has to be serviced regularly – at least once a year - so that it continues to work properly. Servicing can help to avert any potential problems before they occur. However, many people decide that early winter is a good time to make sure their boiler is in full working order, and are then faced with a long wait because every boiler engineer in the country is busy servicing, repairing and installing new boilers because everyone had the same idea.

The best time, therefore, to have your boiler serviced is in the summer or early autumn months when demand is lower. This will give you peace of mind that probably the most important piece of equipment in your home is in full working order and ready to serve you through the cold winter period.

What does a boiler service involve?

As well as dealing with any problems that you report and replacing any worn parts, the CORGI boiler engineer will carry out a visual internal and external inspection to check there is no visible damage to the boiler. If any evidence of damage is found then the relevant replacement or repair will be made.

Whilst the engineer that fitted your boiler or repaired it for you previously may well have diarised to contact you in a year’s time for an annual service, this doesn’t mean you can ignore any problems that may arise in the meantime until that service comes round. If you notice any of the following then you should call your engineer immediately:

  1. The temperature and pressure that the boiler normally operates under suddenly drops or changes drastically

  2. The water level falls to an unusually low level

  3. The low water cut off does not work properly when it is tested

  4. There is a change in the temperature or pressure of the feed water

Boiler Servicing: Manufacturers Demand it

The majority of boiler manufacturers recommend an annual service, and in many cases the warranty of the boiler is dependent on a service being conducted.

Whilst many people are currently tightening their belts and trying to keep household costs to a minimum due to the economic downturn, foregoing a boiler service simply cannot and must not be an option. It may seem like an expense ill afforded, but it will offer serious cost savings in the future should anything go wrong resulting in the need for a new boiler.

If your boiler starts to function below its normal level of efficiency then it will usually mean that it needs servicing sooner rather than later. Don’t wait until winter to check your boiler, and don’t wait until your annual service date if you notice anything unusual. Call your CORGI boiler engineer as soon as you notice any signs of inefficiency so that the boiler remains as efficient – and more importantly as safe - as possible.
