Recliners and Chair Shopping Guide

Posted: Dec 02, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

Regardless of what room in our home we happen to be in, we're going to find at least one or more chairs. Whether it's dining room chairs, club chairs, recliners, office chairs or folding chairs, we just can't seem to do without chairs. While shopping for chairs might seem much easier and less complicated than furniture shopping, there are still some guidelines to keep in mind. Here's a little information on the most common types of chairs as well as what you can expect when shopping for them.

Dining Room Chairs: Dining room chairs have been around almost forever. While some families use their dining room on formal occasions, others may use this room every day for every meal. Regardless of how often the dining room is used, you're going to need dining room chairs. The most common type of dining room chairs are wood and called either a side chair or an end chair. The end chair sits at the ends of the table and will typically have a large arm. These are often called captain's chairs as well. The side chairs, which usually have no arms, sit at the sides of the table.

While comfort should always be a concern, families that only eat in the dining room on holidays and special occasions tend to look for more style and beauty. Always look for high quality dining room chairs that are built to be durable.

Club Chairs: Club chairs are typically very elegant chairs, which is what men expected as members of "Gentlemen's" clubs of years past (also how they got their name). Club chairs are usually made of genuine leather, have a thick cushion and raised arms. Club chairs add a touch of elegance to any room of your home and are suitable for any room. Matching ottomans or hassocks make club chairs perfect additions to your living or family room. They also look great sitting in the corner of your bedroom.

Recliners: What would we ever do without recliners in our homes? Are there many things that are more relaxing than stretching out in a recliner after long day at work or after a large meal? Recliners are found in almost all homes because of their comfort and sense of style. Recliners are often designed to be part of a complete living room set, although they can be purchased alone. Leather recliners are suitable for any room décor. When shopping for recliners, look for durable construction because this chair will see a lot of movement and use. Recliners are seldom chairs that just sit in a room for appearance.

Office Chairs: Shopping for an office chair may seem like a small task, but if you spend a lot of time sitting in front of the computer, you want a chair that's comfortable and ergonomically designed to relieve and prevent stress on your body. In office settings, the office chair is the most important piece of furniture. Shop around for your office chair and, if possible, try it out before making the purchase. If this is not possible, learn all you can about its ergonomic features.

Folding Chairs: Folding chairs are another bonus in many homes that frequently have large crowds. They're also less expensive than buying a dozen additional dining room chairs. They're great for crowds and easy to fold up and store. Folding chairs are available in heavy-duty plastic, metal and wood grain finishes. Folding chairs are an inexpensive way of always knowing you have enough seating for your guests.
