Small changes, big impact: clean and green energy is the future

Posted: Nov 12, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

Anyone who's been paying attention to world affairs in recent years may have noticed that environmental issues have featured fairly highly on many forums, from news channels and movies, to political speeches and demonstrations.

Indeed, with a decade of the 21st century already gone, we're starting to really see the renewable energy revolution begin to kick-in, with more and more wind-farms being developed along the UK coast, and even cars that run on biofuels becoming more common.

The UK Government has been increasing its low-carbon technology spend in recent years too, with a number of initiatives designed to lead the way for Britain to enter a new environmentally friendly era.

It may sound like wholesale changes are required in the way we live our lives, but that needn't be the case.

And small steps such as insulating your home properly, having shorter showers and reducing your thermostat by a few degrees can have a massive effect if everyone is on board.

Offsetting has also become a popular phrase in environmental circles in recent years, and has been popularised by many industries seeking to do their bit for the environment. For example, if a business travels a lot via air travel, they may compensate for the emissions caused through this by paying money towards planting new trees, or investing in green energy initiatives.

Similarly, if you've been using the same energy provider for years, it's maybe worth your while looking into what the company is actively doing to help the environment.

Everybody needs electricity and gas, and for all intents and purposes the energy that powers people's home is the same irrespective of who provided it – but there are ethical suppliers out there with one eye on the Earth's wellbeing.

This could be as simple as matching every unit of electricity used from traditional sources with that generated by renewable sources. So in effect, the use of renewable energy is being promoted through doing nothing more than what you normally do at home, whether that's boiling the kettle, watching television or having a shower. All you need to do is ensure you're on the right tariff with the right company.

It's everyone's responsibility to look after the future of Mother Earth. And it doesn't involve wholesale lifestyle changes – a little care, thought and research is all that's really needed – and the cumulative effect of everyone getting involved can have a massive impact across the globe.

Green Energy - It's all around us. We can see it, feel it, touch it and even consume it. Sounds a little bizarre right? Well, it's quite true but what on earth is it? Primarily, I'm talking about sun and wind - sources of clean, natural energy, more commonly known as green energy. There are also 3 other sources of Green Energy in use today and these are in the form of tidal energy (water), biofuel and geothermal. However, the more common forms of green energy resources are solar and wind.
