Cystic acne treatment what you need to know

Cystic acne causes many other problems; bacterial infections, hormonal imbalances, discomfort and pain, and skin inflammations.

Deciding on medical or surgical treatments can be a serious choice for sufferers of cystic acne and should be considered for serious situations, but for milder cases where you want to control an eruption or prevent it from worsening, there are some simple procedures you can do in your own home.

Add to your normal skin washing program with a good anti-bacterial cleaner, washing the area affected by cystic acne several times a day.

Bacterial infections can worsen acne, making control and cure that much harder. You need to stop using makeup, letting the anti-bacterial lotions you apply instead to their work. Non-cystic acne areas can have make-up but protect acne areas from make-up, excess oil and sweat.


A homemade skin treatment of baking soda mixed with water in a one to one ratio creates a thick paste which you can apply to any affected areas. Leave the paste there to dry, say less than half an hour, and then wash off.

Using baking soda on your skin has a dual purpose. It absorbs and helps controls the oils in your skin. And its ph. basic nature helps fight bacteria which cause acne.

On affected areas a mud mask or deep cleansing mask that has active citric acid components has the wonderful effect of drying up excess skin oils while protecting and promoting good skin health.

There are many acne treatment creams and ointments to be found at your supermarket or drug store which you can try.

Read the labels and make sure you buy a cream that has benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide is effective against acne. Don't spend money on something that just says it works but has nothing useful in it.

Simple changes in diet can also be useful and shouldn't be overlooked.

Eating a lot more fresh fruit increases your vitamin intake. Avoid spicy and oily foods which can worsen acne inflammations.

And drinks lots of water -- that's water, not sodas or coffee. Water keeps your skin hydrated and healthy so drink between a half a gallons to a gallon of water a day. [Remember, fresh fruits have a lot of water in them].
