I am too old and in too much of a hurry to waste time with fools. The world I see often differs to the world others see. This is probably because I see the world as it really is and not as I would like it to be nor as some elevated guru tells me that it is.Happiness is reality. http://go2-url.com/aeiasr http://www.costa-classified-ads.com
Acne - Diagnosis of Acne
Mild forms of acne don't need much diagnosis. People in their teens will readily recognize the small blackheads or white pimples surrounded by a reddened area that constitute mild acne.
More severe forms, where nodules or cysts form, where papules or pustules have spread around the face, shoulders and chest generally require a visit to the doctor. So they can give the best advice, they will obtain a complete history and check the affected areas. They'll note the color, number and size of outbreaks.
The acne may consist of a field of small, white bumps called whiteheads. Often these require little treatment. Blackheads arise when the contents extrude into the air, where it combines with oxygen in the air to form the characteristic dark color. A whitehead is a closed comedone while a blackhead is an open comedone. A good antibacterial cleanser and time may be all that's needed.
In more severe cases, with nodules or cysts forming, the patient may have other symptoms not usually associated with acne, such as fever and aching joints or even headaches and GI (gastrointestinal) distress. These symptoms will not go away and need medical help, such as prescription drugs.
The order in which the symptoms developed, is necessary for a proper diagnosis. Typically, only the patient can provide that information. A diary of each attack, if they are regular, would be ideal. Record the progress of the attack. .
The specialist will try to rule out other possibilities before diagnosing acne.
Some insect bites, such as mosquito or spider bites, can look like acne. The marks left by mosquito bites soon clear up for all but those who are allergic. Most bites by spiders are not dangerous, although some are venomous and the lesion will spread for a while before fading away. The treatment of insect bites is different to the treatment for acne.
There is a common complaint called rosacea that differs from acne in several respects, although it, also, forms papules and pustules. Whiteheads are caused by keratosis pilaris. Heat rash (miliaria rubra) forms small red lumps. Unless you know it is acne, do not treat any other spots the same as you would treat acne.
Also, several allergies appear and look like acne. SDTs are quite common problems. Sometimes they actually produce acne, but they can cause other skin problems, too. Painful red lumps in the nether regions, for example, can be a symptom of herpes.
Certain drugs can actually cause acne. Anabolic steroids and prednisone are used widely. Phenobarbital and tetracycline can start an acne attack. A proper diagnosis cannot be made without honest disclosure of any drugs that are being taken.
Excessive use of vitamin B complex is associated with acne outbreaks. The medical professional will want to know about any supplements and whether any over the counter medications or remedies have already been tried.
You need to be familiar with your skin and able to give a full history. That, it should go without saying, is key to any proper treatment.
