 Acne 101-What is Acne?
 

The most common form of acne is known as Acne Vulgaris which literally means "common acne". Pimples, blemishes, spots, and zits are the most common acne injuries. The term acne has its roots from ancient Greek language,simply meaning a skin eruption. Acne vulgaris affects the parts of skin with the most intense population of sebaceous follicles; these areas include the face, the upper part of the chest, and the back.  The cause of acne in adolescence is generally an increase in male sex hormones which people of both genders may experience during puberty. For most people's cases, acne diminishes over time and tends to disappear or at the very least decrease after one reaches one's early twenties. But  some individuals can continue to suffer from acne well into their thirties and beyond.
 

 
The Biology Of Acne
 

 The medical term for pimple is comedo(pl.comedones). There are 2 types of comedones-opened and closed. The open comedo is when the hair follicle or pore is clogged with oil and dead skin cells. Even though the pore is clogged the surface remains open.Air coming in contact with the pore turns the oil and skin cells black,causing the blackhead. The closed comedo is basically the same process only the surface is not open and the result is the whitehead. Acne houses both non-inflammatory and inflammatory characteristics of swelling, irregularly shaped lumps on skin.  Non-inflamatory acne is caused by the body's immune system responding to a possible threat, i.e. a virus. With acne, this invader is often bacteria,the result is a red color, swelling and elevated temperature in the inflamed area. Inflamatory acne falls into 3 separate types of lesions;papules,pustules, and nodules.A papule is when the lesion is closed,similar to a whitehead but is inflamed. The pustule occurs when the papule begins to erupt onto the skin surface. The visual part of the pustule is the pus(dead white cells) that have been fighting the infection.The nodule is a pustule in reverse. Where the pustule erupts toward the surface of the skin, the nodule erupts below the skin surface. Severe acne is inflammatory, however, it can disguise itself in non-inflammatory form too.

 Acne Causes

 
Many external factors can cause skin irritations. Most hair products which  have oily bases can come in contact with your skin.Make-ups do not cause true acne, but  can aggravate it, so be careful when applying them. If the product you have been using creates unwanted reactions, suspend the application immediately. Perspiration doesn't cause acne,but can transport debris to clog pores.Picking and squeezing pimples pushes bacteria deeper into the skin cells and can spread it beneath the surface of the skin. Washing your face too often can stimulate oil glands. In some occupations,contact with chemicals or polluting agents that cling to the skin can be a cause for acne to develop. Too much sun,while Ultra Violet(UV) light kills the bacteria,the effects are only short term and the outcome could result in other skin damage.  There are numerous medications that can cause acne. Anything from sedatives to anti-aging hormones including some drugs that are used to prepare you for major surgeries.  If you take these drugs and see that you manifest signs of acne outbursts, you should notify your doctor of any and/or all the side effects you are experiencing.
 

 
Some Common Medications
 

Here are some vitamins to gain the right immunization against acne. Vitamin A, also known as Retinol is good for skin damage,but like anything else,excessive and  extremely high doses of Vitamin A are toxic.But in the way of food sources,Vitamin A is found in fish oils, liver and dairy products. So, you would not only care only for your skin but for the totality of your body as well. Second, Vitamin B-2  is often helpful alleviating stress, and since stress has been known to aggravate acne, it will help cease its growing number. B-2 is in whole grains,fish,milk,eggs,meat,and green leafy vegetables.Third, Vitamin B-3 improves blood flow, promoting healthy skin. Key foods containing B-3 are peanuts,eggs,avocados,liver and lean meats. Fourth, a powerful substance named Vitamin E.is an anti oxidant. It protects fats in the body from oxidation and eliminates free radicals that can damage the skin.It also helps to regulate the Vitamin A in the body. Vitamin E is found in almonds, peanuts, sunflower seeds, broccoli, wheat germ and vegetable oils.   How About Popping?

 
So do you have the major tendency to stick up your thumbnails and squeeze the culprit? But you're too scared because everyone else around you says that this shouldn't be done? Well there are "skilled and non skilled poppers". It can benefit you, as popping it can help its healing process. But, an abrasion that's not ready to pop can lead to a skin blemish, so its better leave the pimple which is not yet ready to pop.There needs to be an immediate means of release so as not to create potential scarring. You could actually do it. After taking a shower, sterilize a sewing needle with rubbing alcohol. With the needle, moderately pick the exterior of the pimple or the pus infected area that can be seen at the top of the "zit".Working on a pimple in this manner will release the infection from the pore. But do not "pop" using only pressure. If it's ready, it will pop.Scarring is created by the wound trying to heal itself resulting in too much collagen concentrating on the infected spot. For existing scars, to make them heal, see a skin expert a dermatologist who can give you a cortisone injection which would alleviate the swelling or halt the scarring.   
 

 How To Face The Problem

 Unfortunately, there are times that the acne doesn't go away when the blemish disappears.Acne scar treatments can be as high as $3,000. In today's looming crisis, you cannot just throw an amount like that in a snap because you wouldn't find a replacement for that amount in an instant In many cases you might be able to find acne treatments that work using natural remedies.
