The Different Types of Acne Cream

There are many different types of acne cream you might consider if you are struggling with acne.  These different types of creams include RetinA, ProActiv, Differin, Resveratrol and even home remedies.  Always speak with a dermatologist to determine which solution might be right for you.

RetinA is an acne cream used by millions of people and only accessible if prescribed by a doctor.  This type of treatment is very strong and is considered to be one of the most effective creams for fighting acne breakouts and scars.  You must remain out of the sun with this type of medication and ensure you do not use more than the prescribed amount.

ProActiv is an acne cream that is seen on television and many celebrities have endorsed this treatment method for acne, which is what has made it so popular among teenagers.  The active ingredient in ProActiv is benzoyl peroxide, which is actually a bleaching agent.  Most over the counter acne creams have an active ingredient of benzoyl peroxide.  ProActiv is known to be extremely effective for some people to clear even the most severe cases of acne.

Differin comes in an acne cream, gel, and a solution.  This type of treatment is considered a medication that you would get from your dermatologist and is not offered over the counter.  Differin works to normalize the skin cells and promote skin cell growth, while working to control oil production.  This works to prevent acne from spreading and producing. There are side affects with Differin some users have experienced.  However, this method of treatment for acne is considered effective.

Probably the best acne cream ingredient, in terms of how well it reduces the breakouts and inflammation without the side effects of the harsher ingredients is Resveratrol.  This ingredient is made from the skin of grapes, and it was examined in an Oxford University study.  What they found was that it kills bacteria at the same rate, if not better, than benzoyl peroxide.  However, it has none of the free-radical causing side effects, and the links to cancer, etc. that Benzoyl has.   The really cool part of it, is that it naturally has the effect of lessening redness and inflammation too.  Lastly, the world-renown benefits that resveratrol has for anti-aging translate into making your skin look younger and less damaged after the acne goes away.  There is one manufacturer currently integrating resveratrol into their acne products.  Dermajuv has an acne treatment line that includes the ingredient, and it has been gaining a lot of ground in the industry.

Many people make their own home remedies for acne cream because they may not have the money to seek medical advice from a dermatologist or they would prefer a natural solution for their skin.  It is always best to seek advice from a dermatologist.  However, if you do not go to a skin doctor then you can start your acne treatments with over the counter solutions like ProActiv or Dermajuv first.  It is possible that acne treatment on the shelves may be effective enough for you.  If not, you may need to acquire a prescription for something more powerful from a dermatologist.
