Acne is a problem for many teens, and an occasional adult. Below are some simple tips on how to control your acne. These tips are the basic things that everyone with acne should be doing.
1. Keep your face clean, that means you should wash your face at least twice a day. If regular soap is not helping, use a good acne medicated cleanser. If one cleanser does not work after a period of time try another, your skin type or condition may dictate a specific brand. You may also try some of the other acne products that can be used on the pimples between washings, these should contain benzoyl peroxide.
2. The idea is to keep the pores clean so dead skin cells can reach the surface, so do not use lotion on your face. Doing so may only aggravate your condition, the same goes for cosmetics. If want to use lotions find one that is formulated to not promote pimples.
3. There are lotions and cosmetics available that are not supposed to promote acne if you really want to put something on your face. Also, do not use any kind of exfoliation or scrubbing products. These may only cause more irritation to your acne.
4. If you shave it would probably be better to not use a safety razor. It would most likely nick pimples and cause more inflammation. If you must use a safety razor, wash your face with soap to soften the beard before putting on shaving cream. It would be best to just use an electric razor so you would not have to worry about it.
5. Important, do not squeeze or pop the zits. This will only promote scaring which is something you do not want. You should also just try to keep your hands away from your face. Touching your face may spread bacteria and dirty hands will contaminate your skin. If you must touch your face wash your hands first.
6. Do not expect overnight results trying to get rid of your acne, it will take time. If you do not have any luck controlling it, you can see your doctor or a dermatologist for help. They can prescribe oral and topical medications to help. Acne can start in early teen years and will eventually go away, but it could last 5 to 10 years if not taken care of. Some may have occasional pimples into there 30’s.
