Many people suffer from skin disorders like acne and psoriasis and most of them find themselves at sea when it comes to getting the best possible treatment or remedy for their afflictions. This holds particularly true for acne vulgaris, also know more commonly as pimples, zits, blackheads or whiteheads. It is a relatively common skin disease which affects skin parts such as face, neck, shoulders, chest and back. Acne manifests from the clogging of pores of the sebaceous glands which results in accumulation of sebum. Soon these clogged pores attract Propionicum acne, a bacteria which proceeds to cause inflammation at the affected site by killing white blood cells therein. Acne is found most frequently in teenagers but can also occur in some adults as well as pregnant women.

So what causes acne? Nobody knows for sure as the exact causes are yet to be identified. Some of the key reasons pointed out by experts include diet, genetics, hormonal change and even pollution. While quite a few people find relief with over-the-counter (OTC) remedies, others may find the going tough, requiring more potent medications like generic minocycline (also known as Arestic, Aknemin, Akamin, Minocin and Dyncin).

Like most diseases, acne needs to be remedies from within the body, and medications like minocycline score high in this regard. Which is why a competent dermatologist may prescribe generic minocycline together with a topical medication, so that this skin disorder is treated effectively. So, what is minocycline and how can it help stop your acne right on its tracks? minocycline is an orally ingested antibiotic which not only inhibits the development of the P. acne bacteria and the inflammation that usually accompanies it, but also actively encourages the body’s immune system to attack and eliminate these bacteria.

Minocycline is not available in a topical form (i.,e one which is applied directly on a body part). It should be administered twice a day in 50 mg or 100 mg doses. It is readily absorbed by the system and can be taken along with food or milk. However, it is advisable to take it on an empty stomach, in order to derive its full benefits.

Does minocycline have any major advantages? While some topical antibiotics can turn you sensitive to sunrays, Minocycline has no sun-related side effects. Moreover, unlike common tetracyclines, there is virtually no chance of getting vaginal yeast infections after using Minocycline. What are the side-effects of minocycline, if any? Despite its many plus points, minocycline has a few disadvantages – users may experience abdominal discomfort, indigestion, dizziness etc. Rashes too may occur in rare cases. Its long term use may cause a bluish skin pigmentation, which is reversible.

In case of daily dosages reaching 200 mg, Minocycline is likely to induce vertigo, nausea and vomiting – hence it is advisable to commence with low doses until your tolerance levels are on the higher side. In case of pregnancy, one should avoid the use of minocycline as it can harm the fetus. Also avoid breast-feeding if you have been prescribed minocycline.

Whoa! Does this author work for the drug manufacturer? "Minocycline has no sun-related side effects," total falsehood. According to the National Center Biotechnology Information, as well as many others, "plan to avoid unnecessary or prolonged exposure to sunlight and to wear protective clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Minocycline may make your skin sensitive to sunlight."

And then another lie, "there is virtually no chance of getting vaginal yeast infections after using Minocycline." Again, according to the NCBI, "itching of the rectum or vagina". While they did not describe it as a "yeast infection", those are the symptoms of a yeast infection.

On top of that there are several severe, life threatening side effects such as, "yellowing of the skin or eyes" AKA liver damage, something I myself experienced on this drug. Also, "It has also been linked to cases of lupus. Minocycline can reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives.[8] Prolonged use of Minocycline over an extended period of time can lead to blue-gray skin (permanent blue discoloration of gums) or teeth discoloration. Rare but serious side effects include fever, yellowing of the eyes or skin, stomach pain, sore throat, vision changes, and mental changes, including depersonalization.[9][10]"

I experienced the lupus, and mental changes as well. These are side effects that only a few people experience and I'm one of those lucky few, but others should have this knowledge so they stop taking this dangerous medication if they experience these serious side effects.
