How Parents can get Their Teen into a Teenage Drug Treatment Center

Posted: Jun 18, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

Teen treatment centers assert the role of the parents in making their teenage children live a great life. However due to the lack of open channels of communication between the parent and the teenager, the latter tends to confide and spend time with his or her friends, some of them who  could put all stops to his development by tempting him with drugs and alcohol.

Oblivious to the parent, the teenager can be swayed into the momentary high and the celebratory moments that accompany rounds of alcohol and drugs.  Teens tend to smoke weed(Marijuana) take prescription drugs, go to rave parties and indulge in drugs that make them sexually promiscuous like Dissociatives and Club Drugs like Ecstasy. All of these drugs are not only illegal but they can also create a lot of physical and mental problems for the child, even leading to death. Impotence, aging, cancers, stroke, liver diseases and heart attacks are some of the repercussions of teen alcohol and drug abuse. Secondly, since they are taking drugs at this age, they may also find it difficult to stay sober and go into relapse as well.

As a parent, you should keep a careful watch on the behavior of your teen. Teen treatment centers state that some of the obvious symptoms and signs of drug abuse include droopy eyes, reddish tinge on the whites  of the eyes, bad breath, memory loss, seizures, seemingly altered sense of emotions, paranoia, inability to sleep, laughing hysterically even though a thing may not be that funny, stained fingertips, teeth and lips. Your teens may also display behaviors which are unbecoming of his or her personality. For instance, she may spend more time in the privacy of the toilet, spend more time in her room so that she can take drugs, avoid her usual group of friends and join a new group altogether. If the teen is injecting drugs, he may wear a long-sleeved shirt to hide the marks. .  It has been seen that alcohol and drugs are usually taken by teens after school before the parent comes home from work.

You are a doting parent; it is your responsibility to make sure that your teen does not spoil his or her life. Keep a close watch on their moves, if you get suspicious.  You may go through the phone bills, ask your cell phone subscriber to give you call records that may give you idea if your son or daughter has been hiding something from you. When you conclude that there is something fishy going on and you smell drug abuse, call your child and have a heart to heart confrontation. Do not scare your teen by speaking harshly, just him or her speak up. Show your teen some videos about how drug abuse can kill, give him or her books to read on the subject. If the condition of the teen is worse and you think that he or she should be rehabilitated, by all means, take your child to a teen rehab center so he or she becomes well soon enough.
