For all addicts and alcoholics, start on your road to sobriety by visiting the authors blog page http://selfintervention.blogspot.com/
If you are an addict or alcoholic, or both- then you are probably familiar with the term "Intervention". In fact, if you are an addict or alcoholic, the thought of an intervention is probably your worst nightmare. To all of a sudden find yourself duped or enticed by some means to show up somewhere, and when you walk in the door, SURPRISE! You find yourself in the middle of a room full of people that have by one way or another been affected by your addiction.
When this situation happens to some people, they take off running, and go immediately to get high, leaving the room full of friends, family and loved ones sitting there. Often they wait around for the addict to return just in case he has second thoughts about it. But that is rare.
There is nothing more powerful or more convincing than a room full of people, that one by one read a letter aloud for all in the room to hear. The letter usually conveys the same basic message of their love for the addict, but disgust over what they are doing to themselves and the effects it is having on others. At the end of the latter there is always some type of ultimatum given. Sometimes the ultimatums can be pretty harsh. They threaten losing a place to stay, or use of a vehicle, or cutting off contact and money supplies. And after everyone around the room has read their letter, the addict is offered a free ticket to a predetermined place for rehabilitation.
Between the emotional outpouring of the room, the extreme guilt of the addict, and the ultimatums that will go into effect if the addict rejects the offer, it's hard not to give in. The addicts usually accept the offer, and away they go.
The whole point is this; if you are an addict or alcoholic, and your people love you, and are concerned about you enough to organize an intervention - and everyone shows up, then seize the opportunity! If this happens to you, do not run away. Stay and listen to what is good for you. Accept the proposal to get clean, and drop everything to go! Drugs and alcohol will get you in the end, and you may never have this kind of opportunity again! An intervention can save your life, so swallow your pride and your anger and just do it.

Drug Rehab In Utah
By: johnantony | 25/11/2009You could look at any celebrity who overdosed and died at a young age, and more often than not, this could be linked to problems experienced when one was young, including child abuse. This fact should be looked at not as a means of excusing these tragic figures, but to understand how drug addiction has to be treated primarily by addressing emotional problems.
When Going Through Alcohol Rehab
By: johnantony | 25/11/2009Going through alcohol rehab is a tough time, where one has to be tough, but also realize that toughness is not everything. It is okay to realize that you can not do everything on your own. This is where friends and family, as well as counselors, come into the picture, providing love and understanding during such a trying time.
Alcohol Rehab In Arizona
By: brianburt1 | 25/11/2009Treatment for alcohol abuse is not meant to bring an instant cure to one’s addition. As with substance use and abuse, one’s alcoholism is a process that requires the readjustment of one’s physical and mental condition. During the interim, one needs an environment that is conducive to the uplifting of one’s spirit. Not any place will do.
Increasing Access To Drug Rehab
By: bairdbraid | 25/11/2009Addiction rehabilitation is a hard thing in itself, but making it harder is the criminal aspect of drug addiction. Due to the classifying of certain dangerous drugs as illegal, drug users are less open about their addiction and their need for help. Drug rehab should be available for all, even those who could not afford to be bailed out of jail.
