Hospitality Colleges Are The First Step Toward A Great Career

Posted: Feb 10, 2011 |Comments: 0 |

Many students who enroll in hospitality colleges enjoy the idea of working in the business world, sans cubicles. With a degree in hospitality management, you might find work in "hotels, restaurants, senior living communities, corporate facilities, casinos and even palaces or embassies." The list of options is extensive, but to put it simply, graduates of hospitality colleges are needed in any location requiring great customer service and management skills.

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, "hospitality management salaries for college graduates are growing more quickly than in any other industry in the United States." Salary among these professionals has grown by almost 10 percent in the past year, claimed Jeffrey Catreett, Dean of The School of Hospitality Management at Kendall College.

It seems that despite the economic recession, the hospitality industry is thriving. Nancy Rotunno, Executive Director and Dean of the Institute of Culinary Arts at Robert Morris University (RMU) said that "the hospitality/restaurant industry has always been popular and it has gained even greater popularity in the last several years."

Both RMU and Kendall offer a bachelor's degree in hospitality management. RMU offers its curriculum either in a traditional daytime format, or a blended mix of online and weekend classes for nontraditional and adult students.

RMU students select a concentration track from the following options: Menu, Management and Facilities Design, Restaurant Operations Management, Hospitality and Restaurant Management, Purchasing for the Hospitality Industry, Beverage Management, Recreation, or Lodging and Tourism Management.

Toward the end of their education, hospitality students at Kendall are able to choose from one of the seven following areas to focus on: Club Management, Casino Management, Hotel and Lodging Management, Meeting and Events Management, Restaurant and Foodservice Management, Asset Management, or Sports and Leisure Management.

As you can see, hospitality colleges offer a variety of options to students looking to pursue management-level careers in the industry. Hospitality is one area where working professionals can make a great living without having to work in a nine to five office job. If you're interested in one of these careers or you're already working in one but would like to advance to a higher-level position, earning a degree throughhospitality colleges will provide you with the additional credentials that you need.
