How To Treat ADHD Naturally In Children - How Realistic Is This?

Posted: Feb 13, 2011 |

The question about how to treat ADHD naturally in children is an issue which plagues many parents. To medicate or not to medicate, that is the question! Are natural remedies using herbs and homeopathy really the answer and how realistic is this?

First let us look at why conventional meds are not really the answer at all and why parents are turning away from these and looking for alternatives. I think the crunch came in 2007 when the FDA placed all the black box warnings on these meds.

There were too many unanswered questions especially about the possible problems with appetite, heart problems, stunted growth, psychiatric problems and risks of suicide and so on. It seemed that there was a very high price to be paid for relief from hyperactivity, restlessness and impulsivity. Surely there were more efficient and safer ways?

How to treat ADHD naturally in children became a priority for many caregivers, teachers and parents. The meds were no longer providing all the answers. Research was raising questions about what really was the most effective way to deal with what is, let us face it, a minor mental disorder.

Diet is the most natural way there is. Many parents have found that by experimenting with various foods, they have reached a point where they have stabilized the symptoms a little. That is important because they can avoid temper tantrums and other disruptive behavior.

Just by avoiding preservatives, additives and food dyes is a great start. Then I know parents who have ramped up on fruit, vegetables, nuts, whole grains and supplemented everything with Omega 3 and Vitamin B. Even after a short two months, one can see an improvement in some of the ADHD symptoms. Children tend to be less restless and can stay on task and are also in a better mood. Trying a simple trick of adding more protein at breakfast can prevent a crash later in the day.

Parents have found that by giving more attention to behavior issues, increasing green time and ensuring that their homes are more ADHD friendly has helped to reduce symptoms and improve behavior all round.

How to treat ADHD naturally in children is now being investigated by various research bodies and the major authorities are now taking a much broader view and playing down the importance of medication. This is not only realistic, it is the only way to go.

So, now that you know that medication is not the only answer, why not visit my website where I have outlined how to treat ADHD naturally in children. Why not check it out now?
