I Think My Child Has ADHD –If You Are In This Predicament, Read This Article!

I think my child has ADHD will be something that is very often heard from parents when talking to teachers and other parents. They have suspicion that their child is falling behind in his or her development. They may have noticed some alarming signs and they have observed these for more than six months. They are convinced that their child is not progressing as he should and that this condition is holding back his development and that he may also be falling behind at school.

The problem is that ADHD diagnosis is often very badly managed. First there are a lot of cases of misdiagnosis. Research at the Michigan State University  which studied 12,000 children, estimates that the number nationwide could be as high as one million children being labelled or mislabelled for life. That is a very high figure and we should look at the reasons for this.

The first reason is that ADHD is difficult to diagnose. ‘I think my child has ADHD' may be remark to get the doctors going down that path but this is often wrong. There are many childhood conditions which can be so similar to ADHD. These include learning difficulties, emotional trauma, thyroid problems, hearing difficulties and eyesight problems, just to name a few of the total list.

Often there is insufficient attention given to those conditions and also to the fact that a food allergy or another type of allergy caused by dust or pollen may well be the cause. These should all be carefully ruled out before going on to diagnose ADHD. The questionnaires have to filled out by both parents and teachers and some people have objected that it is not nearly scientific enough at all!  If only there were a diagnostic test that would give a clear cut answer to the vague feeling that ‘I think my child has ADHD'.

The main thing is to avoid getting into an argument with your child's teacher who may be pushing you to put your child on the psychostimulant drugs. There is so much controversy over these now that it is hard to know where to begin, really.

Most experts agree though that medication is only a partial and temporary answer and that behavior modification must be the way to go. If that is combined with a homeopathic remedy, then your child will have a much better chance in life. There will never be  a question of his losing any sleep or even losing his appetite.   Why not check out how this type of treatment beats the meds, hands down every time!

Treatment of ADHD can be very patchy and a lot depends on the education of the parents, the doctors and the teachers. These are the main stakeholders in the game and they all can play a vital role. But an alternative therapy for ADHD is often viewed with some hostility and suspicion, which is most unfair in my view.
