Job of the bartender is cut out at serving the customers and the most important part of it is serving different types of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Restaurants, hotels, lounges, and bars are the usual places for their employment. Bartender is an important part of the hospitality industry and its growth has been simultaneous with the recent huge growth of the hospitality industry.

Job of Bartender

Bartending job requires in depth knowledge about various types of beverages, their preparation for consumption by the customers, and more important; preparing cocktails. More often than not the bartender might come across challenges of preparing new drinks deviating from the path of traditional ones.

Skill Level

Basic skill level of the bartender is in influencing the customers. In some of the bars and restaurants they are allowed to interact and chat with the customers though in some others the facilities may not be available. Yet the opportunities for interaction with customers could be very good learning experience especially for the young bartenders. Learning from mistakes and praised for job done with excellence, they can become future experts of the trade. In any case, friendly and welcoming behavior is extremely important for a successful bartending job.


Career Requisites

People wishing for bartending careers must have a high school certificate on bartending. In high class bars and hotels and lounges the educational level required is a graduation degree. Some work experience is also necessary to become bartender. Such experience can be gained by working as bartending trainee in hotels, restaurants, and lounges. Most important among the entire prospective bartender should learn good etiquette and communication skills that can render them favorite of the customers. Having a good and pleasant personality is also equally important.

About Bartending Job Salary

While the salary for the bartender will largely depend on the experience and skill levels of the bartender, it is also highly influenced by location, experience, state where he or she is working and the employer types. Average bartending job salary would be in the range of $25,000 - $30,000 per annum. Experienced bartenders will get more while those new in the job will naturally draw fewer salaries. One seeking some career information on bartender salaries will find that a bartender can get on average $10 per hour in states like California and New York while it would range at $6-$8 on average per hour in states like Ohio , Pennsylvania , and Texas.
