Bitless bridles for many disciplines

If you're a new horse owner or would just like to know a little more about the sport this article is perfect for you. I have owned horses for the majority of my life and I like to share my knowledge. I think it's important for us all to give each other a little bit of knowledge in something we know about so that everyone learns a little each day. It may not come in handy but you never know, you may find it interesting.

Today I'm going to tell you about the main disciplines in which people in the equestrian world like to compete in. Like any sport we go out competing against each other and win rosette. This can be done at any level from riding club level (RC) to Affiliated level.

Firstly we have show jumping, this is when a horse and rider tries to successfully jump over fences without knocking them down. A course normally has 9 to 13 jumps in it dependent on the course manager. The idea is to successfully jump over all of them without knocking the fences down. People are given penalties if there horse refuses to jump the fence or knocks it down. If people take to long to jump the course they can also be given penalties. This will then be taken into account at the end of the course. To establish the winner the riders who successfully complete the competition will jump a number of fences against the clock. The person who does this in the fastest time wins. Any type of tack can be worn for this such as bitless bridles, comfort or crank bridles.

We then have dressage, which involves no jumping. Dressage is when people are given a number of ‘moves' to perform on their horse. Often riders with the best relationships with their horses do well. Combinations are given points, which then are turned into percentages out of a 100. Whoever has the highest percentage wins the class.

Cross country is very much like showjumping but the fences don't move if you knock them down. These can be in a form of big logs, ditches, jumps through water etc.  This can be very dangerous as you're riding against the clock over open spaces over unknown ground. Bitless bridles cannot be worn for this but comfort bridles can.

I hope you've found this article informative and useful.

When it comes to horse riding, the importance of a bridle is obvious. A horse bridle comes in different pieces such as brow-band, nose-band, cheek-pieces and throat-lash. For the comfort of the horse as well as the rider, it is necessary to adjust each piece so that the bridle fits correctly. Mismatching can often affect the horse’s gait and co-operation.
