Budget, Keywords and Writing the Perfect Advertisement

What comes first to your mind when you think of advertising a product?

The answer probably is catchy slogans or jingles that catch your attention immediately. Well yes it’s true. Advertising offline is indeed a job that requires a lot of creativity, but what about online advertising? The truth is that all you need to run a successful advertising campaign online are some great ideas and common sense that would help in selling your product, no matter how big or small it is.

One of the integral parts of your an internet marketing advertisement is the advertisement text. One needs to sit down and think properly what he or she is going to write in his small advertisement that would attract the attention of a user. An important thing is to avoid keeping your headlines stagnant, they should keep changing according to the user’s demand. For example if your website is about tennis then at the right time, your ad headline should deal with Wimbledon. For example – Live scores from Wimbledon - or something similar. It should also be noted that keywords hold a huge importance when advertising online.

You should try and include as many keywords as possible in your ad headline. If it so happens that the user searches for the same keyword as the one that you have used, the keyword would be highlighted and there is a good chance that the user would click on the highlighted link.

Use of action keyword phrases such as the above example of “Live scores from Wimbledon” makes your ad catchier and less boring. Avoid using normal day to day ad text. The next important thing is the landing page. It is imperative that your ad line and the landing page are strongly related. If a user cannot easily find what they are looking for on your website more often than not, they would leave immediately. Thus the click would essentially end up as a waste of money. Hence posting interrelated data is very important.

Remember just getting the user to click the link is only half of the battle won, it is of utmost importance that the user gets what he is looking for. Make sure your website is easy to use and the visitor gets what he wants easily without wasting much time.

Avoid asking users to fill forms asking for personal info, first show them what they are looking for and maybe later on, once they have decided to make a purchase you could ask them to fill a form with their details thus this way you do not end up harassing you customer. Make sure the website is easy to the eyes and the text can be read easily.

Decide whether you want to make your website overtly stylish and deal less with the content or whether content is more important to you than the style. The decision often depends on the product you are dealing with.

The most important part of your ad campaign is the keywords used. Remember what matters is the relevance of the word used. Sit down with your colleagues and make a list of short keywords that you could use for advertising. A good idea would be to make them specific as chances are that the user would be looking for something specific.

Let us take the example of a laptop, suppose a user is looking for an HP laptop then most probably they would include the laptop model number in the search hence it would be better if you include the laptop model number in your keyword. Avoid using just one word keywords. Keep experimenting with your keywords. If a certain keyword, despite being reasonably good, is not helping you with your ad campaign then it’s probably the right time to replace it with something else.

Lastly, let’s come to your budget. The essence of business lies in making profits and that is only possible when you cut down on the expenses. Remember online advertising offers you the advantage to reach out to a large number of people and thus bidding for search positions for your keywords is an important part of your campaign.

Bidding depends on your company’s budget. If you are into a small scale business with a restricted budget then experimenting with your bid amount is probably not the best idea. It would be better to short list the group of keywords that have the highest potential of doing well according to you and decide on fixed bids for them and start with your advertising campaign. Deciding on what will be the best bidding amount could be tricky, and you are lucky in that aspect to be aided by applications such as Google AdWords that give you an idea about how much you should bid for. Make sure your bid isn’t too low in order to avoid your ad not appearing at all and also avoid bidding a very high amount as that might result in your company running out of the stipulated budget.

Ultimately it boils down to using all the available resources properly and optimizing your whole advertising campaign quality wise and money wise. Think about your advertisements properly, make them as attractive as possible while not being overtly fancy. Make sure the keywords used serve the purpose well and the landing pages provide the visitors with what they are looking for.
