Concrete Retaining Wall and Concrete Driveway Marin County
This was his personal driveway in Novato that goes up to his house and it is approximately 300 yards long; it's really a lengthy driveway. Near the top of the curve there was a space that had been undermined in which the earth had actually sloughed off and there was a cavity which was an empty space underneath the concrete driveway; so that it was cantilevered or sticking out into the air without any support underneath. Very dangerous.
He wasn't concered about it and had his own employees start to repair it throughout the summertime, but it got too close to wintertime so he called us in to get it done right away. The project was a pretty simple one, it simply happened to be a tough one to do because we had to backfill and compact underneath the void area, then we had to make and pour a new concrete wall and footing that would support everything. We then needed to install drainage to make sure that we wouldn't have this problem again. Then backfill and compact the earth that was removed before us getting there, then install some planting and erosion control in order that it wouldn't slough off during the winter.
It was just a large concrete driveway and retaining wall. Nothing special but really important! We did need to make certain that the drainage was sufficient because it carried all the water that came out from the surface of his large mountain hillside behind his house. All in all we were completed in about a week. The only inconvenience for the customer was having to work around our vehicles as they went along the driveway. When the project was over you couldn't even tell that it was a repair.
