Pay-Per Click advertising, also known as PPC. Can be a very powerful tool to bring targeted traffic to your website. Used properly, it can help you increase sales and build the size of your list. However, you have to test and analyze your results to stay on track. Fail to do this and your PPC campaign can be a disaster costing you thousands with little or no results to speak of.
A friend told me about someone who started a new Internet business. He paid top dollar to have a quality website designed. Finally, everything he needed was up and running.
He put all the proper SEO procedures in place; good keywords in all the right places, etc. His sales page and thank-you pages were top shelf and ready to go. Then he sat back and waited for the money to roll in. And of course, the money didn’t roll in. But still, he waited anxiously. And waited.
He waited for several weeks and finally, he decided to do something. He’d heard about PPC advertising and thought that might be the way to go. He set up lots of keywords and waited for the money to roll in. This time his experience was a little different. He was getting lots of clicks and traffic but his conversion rate was horribly low. His PPC program was bringing in traffic, but the traffic was not interested in his product. Finally, after about a month, he decided that PPC was not for him.
Horror stories like this are plentiful on the Internet. Do a thorough job of researching any advertising method you intend to use. When you are satisfied that you have chosen the right program, make sure you have the right tools to test and analyze your results. There are many companies that provide this information. Seek them out and use their services. Following are six key steps to a successful PPC campaign.
Do your initial research.
Evaluate your customers.
Review your competition.
Research your keywords.
Create a budget and stick to it.
Constantly review and analyze your results.
PPC provides many businesses with a profitable and reliable source of traffic to their websites. Don’t jump into a program because you’ve listened to all the hype. Follow the procedures above so that you are not the subject of the next PPC horror story.
