Promotional products are a part of almost every business, but have you given thought to how you’re actually going to store these promotional items? Although it may not be a big deal to store a box of pens or magnets under your desk, the vast majority of promotional products will need larger storage spaces. Here are some things to keep in mind when you are ordering your promotional products and thinking about where you’re going to store them:
Accessibility is key in an office environment. When you’re storing your promotional products in spaces that are locked or out of the way, fewer people can use them. And what goes is a promotional gift that collects dust? Promotional items should be kept in a place that is easily found by all employees. In fact, when you first receive your shipment of promotional items, whatever they may be, send out a short memo about how they should be given out and where they will be kept.
Make sure that the shelves are heavy enough to support your promotional products. Items like ceramic mugs and other heavy promotional items shouldn’t be kept on high shelves where it is hard to lift boxes in the first place, but it that’s the only place you have to store them, make sure that the shelves are supported to that they won’t come crashing down from the stress of the weight.
Remember, some promotional items are heat sensitive. This usually isn’t a huge concern, but some products that change colors may be ruined if kept in places that are too hot or too cold. Attics and outdoor sheds are main culprits of that! Also keep in mind that some types of plastic melt or may stick together. Check the materials of your promotional products carefully.
Keep your promotional items together whenever possible. If you keep the pens in one closet and the magnets in another and the mugs in a third, some may be forgotten or left behind. To go along with this, try to keep all of the boxes for each product stacked together. A few times every single year, take an inventory of the promotional products you have left and reorder when necessary.
Remind employees often of the promotional products they have available to give out to clients or potential customers. Out of sight, out of mind, and you don’t want the products in storage to stay in storage forever.
When storing your promotional items, clearly label each box, especially if the products are fragile or heavy. Remind anyone who empties a box (or nears the bottom) to report this to you so you can reorder.
Storing promotional items doesn’t have to be hard, as long as you have a plan. Although many people order promotional products, few realize that storage space is an issue until the boxes arrive. Instead of having to take time from your busy day then to figure out storage, take a moment to consider and plan today!
