Tips to Get Jobs in Advertising

Working in advertising can be very challenging. If you want to explore your creative skills probably advertising is the best option for you. Getting an advertising job is difficult but it is quite rewarding. It is not always possible to get a big break into a reputed ad agency at once. But you should not refuse the chance of working in a small agency in the beginning. With experience you can always move on to a big ad firm.

Here are a few tips to help you to get ad agency jobs.

Internship:

Experience matters a lot in this industry. Most of the ad firms look at interns as future employees. If you get the chance don’t let it go by any means. Internship helps you to work with an ad agency and learn the nuances. You will get the chance to work in various areas. Get the most out of your internship and learn as much as you can. The experience is invaluable. It will take you one step ahead than your competitors.

Freelancing:

If you can’t get a full time or even a part time job you can give freelance a serious thought. Many agencies prefer freelancer as they charge much less than the permanent employees. You can also directly approach small businesses, come up with your own campaign and your own.

Entry Level Work:

It feels nice to have your own chamber and bossing people around you. Well, it is the job of the creative head and it is not possible to hold that position as a fresher. You can’t deal with big name clients at once. So start small. Many of the big shots in ad industry had started their career by taking any job that they got. Be willing to work outside of your job description. You can utilize that experience later on.

Create SPEC Ads:

SPEC Ads are the work you have done on your own. It is known in the industry as the copywriting or graphic design you have done but not published. SPEC Ads are very crucial to show your talent.

Contact TV & Radio Channels:

Many of the TV and radio channels need people to write commercials. You can apply for this post. This is a great opportunity for you to get started. It is easier for you to get this job since many people don’t opt for this job as the TV and radio stations don’t pay much for this job.

Special Course:

If you are serious about careers in advertising only college degree or diploma is not enough. Getting education in advertising is important. Try to opt for a special advertising course. It is not necessary that you visit an advertising school. These days Internet has given this opportunity to many people interested to learn about advertising.

Introduce Yourself to the Creative Head:

The creative head is the person whom you need to impress with your talent if you want to join the creative department. Introduce yourself in an innovative way. But remember to maintain the professional tone. Give a brief bio. Share your interest and show your enthusiasm and willingness to be available 24x7 which is very important in this industry.

Work in Sales:

You can also work in the marketing department of an ad agency. It is not similar to the sales department of a car dealership or garment industry. Exploring this department of an ad agency can be very interesting.

Keep these few points in mind. These tips will help you to find jobs in advertising.
