The Gold Coast in Queensland is possibly the most famous tourist destination Australia has to offer overseas visitors. Mainly known for its long stretch of golden beaches from Southport at its Northern end to Coolangatta at the South end, the whole region has been built with the tourist in mind with possibly the greatest collection of tourist accommodation in Australia. Gold Coast accommodation options range from budget backpacker to five-star Hotel and most of them are situated adjacent to a beach.

But the Gold Coast is not just famous for its beaches even though they provide some of the best wave breaks on the east coast of Australia. You also find many other natural attractions to keep you busy for many weeks of your holiday.

Without wanting to limit your choices let's take a look at a few of the more famous options available to you.

  • Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. This famous bird sanctuary developed out of one man's passion to encourage brilliantly coloured parakeets and lorikeets to visit his parkland home over 80 years ago. In the latter years of his life he bequeathed his estate to the Queensland National trust who took over his business and run it to this day as a popular tourist attraction. At regular intervals during the day thousands of these brightly coloured birds visit the park to be fed by tourists. The diet is a specially designed one which encourages health and the birds and provides them with a certain source of food.
  • Springbrook National Park. In the hinterland of the Gold Coast region you will find a subtropical wonderland with waterfalls and long walks for tourists looking for some exercise whilst enjoying panoramic views over the Gold Coast beaches from the surrounding mountains. Being a tourist destination in their own right, you will find such diverse attractions as tulip farms and craft shops.
  • The Worlds. Sea world, Warner Brothers Movie World, Wet ‘n' Wild WaterWorld and Dreamworld make up four of the most popular destinations for families visiting the Gold Coast area. They are all located at the northern end of the Gold Coast and are within an easy drive or bus trip from any hotel. The worlds will take you at least one day each to get through and has a mini Disney World appeal that will keep children wanting to come back again and again, so why not buy a multi-day pass to save yourself some money and keep children entertained? These popular destinations have formed the basis of many tourist plans for decades.
  • Q1 Tower. The tallest building in surfers Paradise rises 80 stories above the surf and the platform deck at the top gives you unparalleled 360° views of the entire Gold Coast region. On a clear day you can see back to Brisbane!

With so much to see and do on the Gold Coast is difficult to limit yourself to any number of tourist attractions, but the above list is a great starting point. Book yourself into any one of a number of Gold Coast hotels and you'll guarantee yourself the holiday of a lifetime.
