You hear all the time how businesses are striving to 'go green' and how you should purchase appliances that that will help your home 'go green.' But what does this even mean? If you turn off the lights when you leave a room or shut off the water while you brush your teeth, are you going green? Or do you need to cover your entire roof with solar panels to go green?

Actually, all these things are considered efforts to go green. Go Green is a broad philosophy and social movement centered on the concern for the conservation and restoration of the natural environment of our planet. More simply put, Go Green is the concept of reducing all forms of waste and pollution. Therefore, anything you can do to limit waste and decrease pollution would be considered going green.

Here is a list of just a few things you can do in your everyday routine to go green.

  • Recycle plastic, paper, and electronics instead of throwing it away.

  • Turn off lights and appliances when you are not using them.

  • Shut off the water when you are brushing your teeth or shaving.

  • Switch off power strips when you know you will not use them for awhile.

  • Avoid letting your car idol when you are not in it.

  • Buy food and products locally through farmer's markets and local businesses.

  • Wait until you have a full load before washing your clothes and dishes.

Remember, if you are not supporting our planet by going green, then our planet will eventually be unable to support you!
