Pre-qualifications for a politician?
Dalip Singh Wasan, Adocate.

We all know that politicians are a class in themselves and everyone cannot enter this class. Only those persons are allowed entry in this section of society who can say that they are entering this field not for service of the people, but they are taking up this field as a profession, trade, calling or employment and they are in a position to invest money in elections and then wait for the results. They must know that they shall be able to recollect the money they had spent on elections shall be recollected only when they could get a position in government. If they remain as MLA or MP, they shall be the loser because on these seats they shall be just voters in the houses and those votes shall not be within their own jurisdiction, but they shall have to vote only as per directions through whips issued by the heads of political parties.
The first condition should be in the man that he should not be interested in the welfare of the people, nor he should become a public servant. He should be in a position to rule over the people and must keep his status so that the people could not meet him as and when they so desire and if people actually meet him, he must be in a position to give them assurances that he would be doing their work. He should be in a position to raise empty slogans and must raise false hopes in harts of the people. He is to stay in position for five years and is very easy to keep the people guessing for a period of five years. He must know the basic problems of people of India and he must try to raise slogans and agendas on the these problems. He must assure the people that he would be in a position to do away all the problems of the people, though his assurances may be false. He should say that he would root out corruption and all bribes though he himself may be a corrupt person and may be taking bribes. He can say to the people that all these are party funds and this party could win elections only if they have got money for spending when the next elections shall be conducted.
He must say that all the people shall be given proper education and all the people shall be settled at works from where they shall be carrying proper wages with which they shall be able to run their family administration. He must assure that each one shall get proper education, though in his heart of heart he must know that all the people should not be given proper education, because once the people are with proper education, the politicians shall not be able to mislead them. It is in the interest of politicians that most of the people should remain below poverty line so that they should not having proper accommodation to live in, they should wear rags and most of them should be working as beggars in the streets. Only such persons could be given false slogans and false promises and only such people could be misled.

The man in the line of politicians must show that he is the well-wisher of the people and whatever he shall do that shall be for the welfare of the people. He should talk high and must be master of the stage because people in developing countries want good speakers on the stages. They would not like a person who cannot speak and who does not know the problems of the people of India. Similar position is available in all the developing countries and even in those countries which are calling themselves as advanced countries. Conditions of people in all the countries are the same and the politicians should be able to raise false hopes and aspirations in the people. They must know all the problems of the people and they must know what could be done for the solution of those problems, though in fact they may not be indulging in the solution of those problems.
The line of politicians is very profit giving and that is the reason, families and families are coming and joining this field. We have declared that we are a democracy, but we have been under family rule, then party dictatorship and then under individual autocracy, though all these situations are foreign to democracy. The people who are in politics have grown rich and they are having more power than the Mughals monarchs. The politicians in India and in other countries did not allow the people of the countries to feel that they are free and they are living in a democracy. The politicians want that the people should feel that they are just slaves and just subjects and they have got no right except the gifts and charities given by the politicians. We have noted that all the states are giving some concessions, stipends, some grants, some relaxations and some things free of cost to the poor so that they should not rise in revolution. The states which are giving dolls to the poor are not actually welfare states, but they are saving themselves and the rich from the wrath of the poor who could rise in revolt at any time. Therefore, the people must understand that the states which are helping them are not true types of welfare states, but they are misleading the people and avoiding revolts. Therefore, all the political parties are taking up those people in who could mislead the people and could tell lies which could touch the skies.
