Attachment is a very important characteristic of human beings. It is a frequent subject in Buddhism as one of the main sources of suffering. Have you ever thought how frequent is it present in your life? It is a very prolific, self-knowledge exercise, trying to catch all of your attachments.
Practicing this, I found how frequent it manifests in my life regarding Technology. Yes, I am a system engineer used to learn new softwares all the time, but even with me, attachment to technology happens a lot. Let me give you a quick example. When you have to do a calculation, do you look for a traditional "solid" calculator, even when are in front of a computer? Why don't use your computer as a calculator? Ok, many people do use the computer, but even in this case, most look for an emulator of the old style calculator. That is why the Windows Calculator is so successful. However, what a silly thing to use the "on screen old style calculator keyboard" instead of your own computer keyboard, which is of course much more practical. That is attachment, because people feel more comfortable even if old habits make no sense anymore.
Now, google for online calculators... you will find a plenty of old style online calculators, but fortunately, someone thought about such issue and have created a much better suited calculator for use in the computer. Therefore, I challenge you to try this online calculator and look at its about page to see why it is much better suited to use when you are in front of a computer.
And you? What is your biggest attachment to technology?
