Do you ever get the feeling that something in your life is missing? That you're not reaching your fullest potential? Are you plagued by unresolved issues from your past? One of the biggest mistakes we make in life is closing ourselves up emotionally. We attempt to deny that the emotional pain is inside. We run from it as hard as we can. However, as much as we try to hide from these feelings, they still follow us everywhere we go. Hence, the term "emotional baggage."

Were you taught to be strong, to always keep going regardless of the pain? Do you listen to the well-intended advice to "get over it"? Pushing your feelings to the side or covering them up is a good short-term solution, or so it falsely appears. The problem arises when we continue to push these feelings down day after day, week after week and year after year. Whenever you avoid dealing with your emotions, they eventually will pile up to a point that the feelings will overwhelm you. Holding onto resentments, grief, guilt, shame and will set you up to have problems with depression, anxiety and physical symptoms such as headaches, high blood pressure, and stomach problems.

No one is immune to their feelings. By avoiding our feelings, we begin to distort how we see ourselves; how we view relationships and how we see the world we live in. It's OK to be strong, but the complete statement needs to be "I can be strong and still have my needs and my feelings."

It is not a sign of weakness to acknowledge your feelings. There are both appropriate and inappropriate ways to share your feelings. When you are having tough times in life, there are often people around you who can provide the comfort and support you need. You must learn to seek them out. Do not set yourself up as an island fortress. Seek out friends, family members, church leaders, and your human resource department at work or local therapists through either the public or private practices.

You have a responsibility to yourself and those you care about to take care of yourself. This includes your emotional well being. You are bigger than your feelings regardless as to how intense they may seem. Your secrets make you sick. Seek freedom from your pain. Allow yourself to process your feelings. You'll be glad you did. The truth will set you free. Remember, we are all in this together.

Sometimes I just dont know what to do.
By: Nikki | 16-07-2008
I have known my fiancee since i was 13. We were best friends, talked every night on the phone for hour upon hours. He always had a thing for me but I was too shy and scared to be with someone who cared so deeply for me. Things started to get kinda serious with us when i was about 16, the only problem is that he had a girlfriend at the time. He told me that he didnt care if i dated anybody except this one person who he hates more then anything. Now this guy isnt a very nice guy and doesnt treat women to nicely. Well my fiancee wouldnt break up with his girlfriend so i decided to sleep with the guy he really hated. He stopped talking to me for about a year and wanted nothing to do with me. Im 20 we have been together for a over two years, but he still gets upset and angry about what happened so long ago that we tend to argue about it at least once a day. I dont want to leave him because i love him with all my heart and truly believe he's the one for me but i dont know to help him move on from that incident.  any ideas on what i could do to help him? he wants to get over it as much as i do. =/

why am i such a loner. is perfring to be alone bad? i love being around people. but im shy so i barely say anything. which is weird because im usually really hyper and goofy. at least with my family. but i care too much about wat people think of me. so i get nervous and have like a social anxiety attack, so i like to be by myself. plus when ever my friends  text or call me, i never answer, unless its my boyfreind. im in clubs and stuff but its hard to participate. im used to not getting my voice heard so i jus like to listen to others opinions. ive never really been much of a talker i guess. im not sure what im asking. lol. umm maybe jus some feed back/

HEALTHY GUY: My somewhat of a friend of 1 1/2 yrs ...
By: doitright | 15-07-2008
HEALTHY GUY: My somewhat of a friend of 1 1/2 yrs became my boyfriend 6 months ago. We are exclusive, committed, both have kids. He is younger than I am (BY TEN YEARS!), but very smart and mature. He doesn't "court" me so-to-speak. I've missed a lot of that 'you are special enticements from the guy'!!! Over the years, I've had a ton of fakes with flowers and gestures. I think this man is exactly what I want. We have both expressed wanting to be married again, that we are loyal to each other. SO WHY.............do I look for things to be wrong that he may not even be aware he is doing or not doing. (MOSTLY...I don't let him know I feel these things... and try to let it pass. My past is full of abusive men; and I'm trying not to let that carry over and deal with it.) If I am always available, and all things are good in his mind.....why should he do anything different? If I become a little more unavailable, and maybe even go away (give myself time to think too) maybe this will be a tell-tale sign for both of us. Does he care? Is he serious about me...or flippant? In between though...... I need an exercise to calm myself down when the anxiety comes around. Thanks
