Face the Music without the Props

Don’t smooth your opportunity to the extent that you don’t have the fresh first view in maintained form.

Someone says only half jesting, I’m already depressed. Then don’t look for that very depressing job high paying job, the price your paying is too much and decrease your consumption of all the bad news out there. Depression tends towards immobility and can leave you stuck in many ways.

Don’t always jettison opportunities to the far future. They might even be less likely to land there.

Rocky starts are not always your complete indicators. You have to be more careful on the rocky coast but it is still the coast and beauty can be found there.

The search for material things can have elusive qualities that don’t get me moving either. Materialism is part of the picture, but it is best to see materialism as just an adjunct to what is experiential.

You can only be so calculating. Much of what you might try has edges that are incalculable, therefore don’t even try. If you allocate for calculations, give it some reasonable portion only.

Don’t try to cross the Atlantic with a paddle boat.

If you have an in your face roving negative thought, practice trying to counter it with at least one opposing thought. Train your mind to do this.

Be alert to positive movements. The temperature does rise, and so do opportunities.

You’re not always looking into the abyss of change. It isn’t that bad. Change can be moderate. You can’t mitigate all your concerns but that doesn’t mean you’re facing a monster.

How much of effort can I make, but also what type of effort can I make. We are taught to work hard, try hard, but there are different types of efforts. I am trying to get a date, climb a mountain, or dig a ditch? It’s not the same type of effort.

Half baked descriptions can end up fully baked. I was talking to someone making self deprecating comments maybe just for the sake of conversation, and I wouldn’t have even thought them to be true or even an issue, but now that they brought it up, I was wondering.

Justification doesn’t need to always precede what are trying to do. If I find justification later on in the process, it is still justification. A lion is a lion if you catch it now or catch it later down the fields. But then you don’t want to be chasing lions either.

If you close a book never to open it again, nothing further is possible. Maybe think small, I’ll reopen the book and read one page more.

I might think that imaging or contemplating the outcomes if I can pass the obstacles, amounts to indulging in fantasy. I feel I shouldn’t picturize what could be if I pass by the obstacles.

If I take this approach, then I am giving the full weight of the whole situation to the obstacles.

Sometimes you just want to get the ball rolling. Unrealistic expectations can keep you in the starting gate indefinitely.

Sometimes you might just want to dive in, not because you have to, but because you want to.

Stuff happens. Maybe put a less harsh label on some of the things that somemtimes do go wrong. Don’t wheel everything into the awful wheel barrel or pretty soon you will be feeling awful.

The argument for balance might get you going. This could balance things for you and that is an intrinsic gain at this point.

Face the music without all those props. Look at how many people have to have something in their hand at a party or social gathering, symbolically of holding on. And these are only outward signs. You have to let go, and that is also on prior achievements as well that you give out as props. These things have faded somewhat and there is no reason to hold on or hold on so tightly. Alright, I went to the best school, but let it go a bit as it years later. I can always pull that diploma from the drawer if I have to but don’t carry it around mentally. Practice not holding on or at least give it a mental rest. You are not only physically holding on, but also mentally in so many ways. In the movie, Henry the 5th, Henry takes a rest on being king, lets it go and goes into the camps disguised with a cloak to hear what they are saying about the King. Making believe you are something a little different than your hard earned image can help in letting go a bit and can serve some purposes.

You might want to land lock on some principals, but don’t land lock everything, you want to move further down the coast and you need to get out into new waters to do that, traveling lightly.

Granted the line may need to be extended. I have bank credit of 100 dollars; I might need a bigger line out from there.

But this doesn’t symbolize you and don’t lock there. Just because a line needs to be extended out, don’t panic and put yourself into a jail of your own making.

In the same way, goals are important, you set them and you might get them. But goals can be a prison too and watch for that. If you feel imprisoned by your goal, get rid of it for now.

At least consider the good enough criteria.

Good feedback is sometimes available; soak it in like sunshine after a cold winter. Maybe even journal it.
