Getting What You Give: The Universal Law of Cause and Effect

When many people hear Cause and Effect or Karma they automatically think bad things. It's something that comes up at times like when you get a flat tire and you're trying to think what you did to deserve it. Usually some ridiculous event comes to mind like the one time you stole 10 dollars from your mom's purse when you were ten and you never got caught. The funny thing is that people never think of the other side of the story.

If every time you do something bad you have to experience some sort of hardship, then shouldn't it work the other way around? If stealing 10 bucks out of mom's purse gets you a flat tire then shouldn't that time you did the dishes without anyone asking you to count for something? Of course it's not that obvious, 10 dollars doesn't equal a flat tire and dishes don't equal something else good, but it does work, even if you don't always realize or understand it.

In reality it's a rather basic concept. Even if there isn't a chart you can reference that tells you what you reap depending on what you sow you can bet it's always working. A lot like the other universal laws, like the recently popular law of attraction, the law of cause and effect is like gravity, it doesn't matter whether or not you believe in it, it's working.

The natural direction most people's minds go when they realize this is usually selfish. Thinking how many good things they can do till they get enough "points" to get that car or TV they've been wanting. Sadly those people are out of luck. As the old adage goes it's the thought that counts. So you can look at this news one of two ways. Either this is terrible news, meaning that you've done a lot of bad to a lot of people and will have to make that up one way or another, or this is great news, meaning that every time you do something good from the bottom of your heart you'll not only enjoy the feeling that comes with that, but also reap tangible rewards down the line.

Unfortunately most people don't do much good for anybody anymore. This doesn't just extend to volunteering, even as basic as helping someone with their groceries is taboo, something that would be considered "weird". And even though the motivation can't be the reward, like I said before it's the thought that counts, it may be the motivation you need to start stepping out of your comfort zone and letting yourself help people and just be a better person.

So today it's those people that I'm writing to. It's so easy to remain in our comfort zone, the one set up by years of conditioning telling us what's "weird" and what's "cool". Maybe it's time we all go back to the things we learned in kindergarden and elementary school. Maybe it's time we start sharing our toys and helping people just because we can. At that point the reward becomes just a peripheral thing, a way for the universe or God to tell you that what you're doing is right. That's the point when you realize the beautiful truth that you really can't help others without helping yourself in the process.

You've just learned how giving from the bottom of your heart and being a better person is a surefire way to reap more happiness and abundance in your own life. When I was 20 years old I was introduced to a business opportunity which had a very solid process which, if followed, would have produced significant results. At least that’s what I was told. I had a rockin’ mullet with my hair below my shoulders, an earring, but it was all business on the top … just a little poofy business since I hadn’t yet been introduced to hair product. :)
