Divorce is a situation that nobody wishes to encounter in their lives yet unfortunately, many end up on that road. It is a situation that is stressful, to say the least. When an association of many years ends, it brings forth a lot of grief and heartache for everybody even remotely associated with it. Divorce sure was the last thing that must have crossed your mind when you were walking down the aisle or when you gave birth to your bundle of joy. Today things stand at a difficult situation. When children are involved, the situation becomes even more delicate. How do you break the topic to them? Let us try and devise a way.
Children are the worst hit in scenarios like this. For them, it is hard to choose one when they want both. It is worse when the children are very young and beyond the capacity to grasp. Although you might today harbor hard feelings for your spouse to a degree that it is hard to go back even if it is for the sake of your children, remember that you are not divorcing them. Every question that comes from their end, no matter how pestering, needs to be dealt with patience.
When we are on the verge of divorcing or are already separated, it is natural for us to vent our feelings to whoever is ready to lend us an ear. However, care should be taken to avoid doing that when children are around. No matter what you feel for your spouse, it is not necessary that they feel the same way too. Never try to paint your spouse as a villain in their eyes. If things between you did not work out, the fault lies in both of you. Children are affected by harsh words and remember them for longer than one can imagine.
Never blame the kids for your state, even if you are raging with fury. Such statements leave behind deep scars in the psyche of the child. He/she might grow up with an inferiority complex. Divorces generally do bring forth a lot of issues concerning money. When such issues crop up, it is best to keep your children out of them. Saying something like, “I have to spend so much on you” is a statement that is sure to take them away from you. To avoid such a situation, it is best to tell them what the exact scenario is. Keeping them in the dark will make them feel cheated. Tell them it is not their fault and it is something that is for the best of everyone.
Give them the time that they need to cope up. Never try to rush them.

By: Andrew James | 22/11/2009 | MotivationalA belief is a feeling of conviction about something specifically related to yourself. Beliefs have a direct impact on our character and behaviour. We can divide beliefs in to two simple categories – positive and negative. A positive belief leads to positive actions like setting goals and targets. Negative beliefs are associated with negative behaviours - like self paranoia. Beliefs are activated by different personality traits. In the case of negative beliefs, the inner critic is a major contributor.
