We have worked with schools across the United States, and believe us, you are not the only person asking this question! The answers that we have heard from our customers are as varied as our customers are. The debate over school uniforms is complicated, so we've included highlights from both sides for you to consider:
Professional:
Some say that a child in a school uniform is more likely to take school seriously. Putting on the school uniform signals he or she is going to school just like dad dresses up to go to work. Schools report that when students dress in "work clothes" rather than "play clothes" they take a more serious approach to their studies.
Promotes Good Discipline:
Many think that school uniforms help maintain school discipline, decreasing the amount of discipline problems. The argument is that children today are lacking in self-discipline because parents refuse to discipline them. This makes it more difficult on the teacher who has to deal with classes of 25-30 students at a time.
Reduces Fighting and Violence:
Schools report that school uniforms decrease fighting and violence that arrise out of arguments over fashionable clothes. Children invariably tease those who do not have trendy clothes. Those who can't afford name brand clothes are often sensitive about their clothing. Schools struggling with gang problems report that school uniforms help ease tensions.
Distractions:
Many parents believe that students wearing school uniforms look nicer and that a school uniform policy ensures that children will come to school in appropriate clothing, avoiding distractions such as fads considered to be outlandish or overly revealing. Some students have turned school into an unending fashion show. This disctracts from learning, as some kids spend more time focused on thier clothes than on homework.
Values:
School uniforms stress that individuality and self-expression are not determined by designer clothing or the latest fashion fad.
Low Cost:
School uniforms are a bargain. They are becoming far less expensive than many other clothes. Schools argue that school uniforms are economical, especially compared to designer clothing, and parents agree given school uniform durability. They say school uniforms last longer because they are made for repeated wash and wear. Many schools capitalize on this by starting used school uniform stores or swap meets. Parents can get used school uniforms at discount prices, or just use them as hand-me-downs between siblings.
School Spirit:
Some feel wearing a school uniform helps build school spirit. It instills a feeling of belonging. As the Beach Boys said, "Be true to your school." Schools report an increase in school pride.
Individuality:
Supressing individuality is the most commonly cited objection to school uniforms. Educators argue that an academic program encouraging students to pursue individual thought is much more important than what they wear. They inhibit creativity and self-expression, forcing students to conform.
Causes Discipline Problems:
Some students reject any rules. Forcing them to wear school uniforms only aggravates their rebelious spirit. They alter their school uniform by tightening, widening, shortening, or lengthening them, and teachers are given the impossible task of policing the students on a daily basis.
Little or No Relationship to Academics:
Opponents insist that their is no credible evidence that school uniforms improve school discipline or promote higher academic acheivement. The principal argument is that some great students are terrible dressers. Dress does not necessarily improve learning.

they degrade students and they do not help prepare us for the real world.
they do not help in behavior and we are still the same people in and out of those uniforms.
uniforms jus are plain Stupido!
You really can not force these students to "don these uniforms with pride or respect", because it simply violates them as an individual.
But i have to say im against uniforms. The First Amendment of the United States Constitution protects the right to freedom of religion and freedom of expression. Expression meaning how you express yourself on what you were.
But this will help with my speech.
thanks.!
Sorry and thanks.
As for the cost problem, my school always gave you the oportunity to donate your old uniforms that dont fit anymore and then they sell them at a much lower price.
Thanks Alot!
Thanks Alot!
if you think individuality and self expression is taken away then think about this...you are all losers!!!!!! there are other ways to express yourself than by your clothes!!!!!! take a risk and get out there and just talk to someone no matter what they are wearing. if you can't do that and you need them to be wearing designer clothes than take a look at yourself, it's a disgusting image of a bad person.
there will always be grouping school unoforms wont stop that.....
And they cost a lot of money
:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(
announcment to students and have a whole day with every student in school with no unform and they wont give detention to every single student what is that 800 detentions ?
Thanks anyway.

GO SKOOL UNIFORMS!!!!!!!
Too manny laws to follow.Pssha i wouldnt follow it.,
By the way, actual rebels and goths do not refer to themselves as so.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA~
SUCKERS
Many educators and sociology experts believe that students who are forced to wear uniforms will only find other, less appropriate ways to express themselves, possibly through makeup and jewelry
k wellll peace
Rebellion is not excess.
Thanks!!
sincerely not comfortable in school
Even if schools want us to wear a uniform, we should at least be able to wear it the way we want and have some way to be able to express our individuality.
By the way, I am not a student, but a parent of four grown children, 2 who had uniforms and 2 who did not.
U SUCK IF U DONT LIKE THEM!
School Uniforms are a disgrace to kids because they can\\\'t express their feelings by what they wear with school uniforms. Whoever made these things called School Uniforms should be ashamed!!!
Tara
Love Joey Rogers baby ... : )
NOTHING!
just making us lose control of one more thing that we thought we could have control over.
Yes, for some people it actually DOES express their personality by the way they dress.
Wearing oddly colored clothes, with akward accesories.. it can tell alot about someone. Like they obviously don't care what people think about them if they have the guts to dress like this. So then they should be a pretty fun, open minded person.
Some people enjoy to be different for a change instead of just like everybody else.
so, therfor i did think this site was helpful, but im going against school uniforms:P !!

In school, you learn, not worry about what other people wear. I ♥ uniforms.
I really like my uniform and I feel like they set a good equalness between wealthy and less fortunate students. It makes everyone fell good about themselves. Thanks for helping me with my paper articlesbase.com!
Well i agree with many of these people. I also have something i want to know. Do school uniforms really cut back the bullying?
i strongly agree to skool uniforms because there are going to be less bullies in the skool and less feelings hurt so ya i wish our skool used to have uniforms
GO SKOOL UNIFORMS!!!!!!!

uniforms might help students focus more
but uniforms are expensive, and buying name brand clothes can be cheap if you but it at good places
makes no sense for us to being wearing stuff that we don't want to wear I'm **AGAINST IT** and I'M supporting it 100% OH BOY!!! all this stuff that it has on this page talking about it brings violence and distractions discipline problems thats not it it's just they can't control the students that's not our problem that's their problem... just like i have a major problem at my skool with dressin up professional and we dont find no job or nothing and just wearing uniform...

Uniforms and Apparel, http://www.hallclosetuniforms.comArticle Source: ArticlesBase.com - Pros and Cons of School Uniforms
From all my research and academic studies, I have come to conclude that schools with school uniforms have a better grade point average then schools with out them and there is less pear pressure to dress like other students.
I know from a kid’s point of view that the school uniforms would be boring and mundane, but from an adult’s perspective the uniforms would be a “good way to show school spirit” and “a better way to take stress off the kids.
But most of these people that have posted on this site are what gave me and my opponent
more information then the "DAM" site you created, also i aprecciate most of the information you have given me on the por's which i needed dearly for my report. Like most of the others said, this site is made for not only pro's but "CON".
P.S. I really thank you for the information. Also how is your industry going? X)
Sincerely, Yakuza S.
and the excuse that people cant afford them is crap... the same people that say that have $70 shoes and polo shirts.
