The Much Anticipated Senior Portrait

It’s incredible that one picture will determine what people will remember of you for years to come. Your freshman year picture may still make you a little queasy, but your senior picture is one you should be proud of. A lot of pressure right? Don’t stress out! The last thing you want to happen is for a blazing headlight to appear on the middle of your forehead the day before your senior pictures (stress is one major cause of acne). So relax. You’re going to look great. And that cute boy with the same first letter in his last name, that you’ve had a crush on since the first day of school, won’t know what hit him when he sees your rockin’ picture next to his this year’s yearbook.
- Relax. Like I said before, stress and anxiety can lead to unwanted pimples usually appearing in the most noticeable places – of course! Do things you enjoy and try not to get too worked up about outfits, hairdos, and makeup (all of which will be discussed a little bit later!)
- Start eating healthy. Your diet can play a big role in how clear your skin is. So not only will your skin have a healthy glow, but you may lose some weight while you’re at it.
- Drink lots of water. Eight glasses may seem like a lot, but the results are worth it. The water will flush toxins out of your system and make you feel healthier and your skin will look healthier. Drinking water will also help you feel fuller longer and will keep you from getting dehydrated.
- If you’re planning on getting your hair cut or colored, make sure to do this a couple weeks before the big day. This will allow for the “new haircut” look to fade away and for your hair to feel natural against your head.
- A week before senior pictures, get a facial to remove dead skin cells and make your skin glow. (If you have bad acne, a facial may not be the right answer for you because it could irritate your blemishes.)
- Make sure to pick out a few different outfits that you love. I talked with my photographer who has done her fair share of Salt Lake Senior Portraits, and she advised that when picking out your outfits it’s best to try and avoid patterns or brand names on your clothing as you wouldn’t want to distract from the money maker (your face!!!). Remember that dark colors will have a slimming effect while light colors tend to show off what your momma gave ya!
- Don’t go too drastic on the makeup. Because it is a picture you will want to wear more than normal, but you want it to look natural and gorgeous. Try a few different variations a couple days before and get the opinion of someone you trust. If you don’t trust yourself to do a good job, go to a makeup counter in the mall and ask if they could help you pick out some colors that will look best with your skin tone.
- Come the day of, make sure you give yourself enough time to get ready and be at the studio or location where your photographer would like you to meet him/her. Relax. Smile naturally. And most of all, have fun! You’re eyes will portray just how you’re feeling inside, so make sure that you are at ease and happy. Try not to put on a plaster smile… but smile with your eyes. If it helps to make yourself laugh beforehand your smile may look a little more natural.
