In many ways, your current appearance may seem to be okay. Yet, you have doubts about some of your “flaws.” You may even have problems with the way you dress. Or you may have apprehensions about your ability to shop for clothing, which fits your body and your lifestyle. Maybe, you have personal or professional goals, which you are trying to achieve.
Basically, you have issues about improving how you look and your self-confidence. Are you too critical, or are you a slacker, when it comes to your clothing? If you think about some of your concerns and follow some very basic guidelines, you’ll increase your chances of choosing the right clothing for your body.
Don’t Expect to Completely Transform Overnight
Expecting to be a completely transformed person overnight is setting yourself up for failure. Remember you are who you are. Changing your appearance won’t cure your low self-esteem or your depression. However, treating the transformation as an ongoing learning experience will prepare you for ultimate success. You discover what works for you and what don’t. You learn how to dress the body you have.
Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
There is nothing wrong with trying on a bikini, if you are not a size 2. If it doesn’t fit like you imagine, then shake it off. Try on another swimsuit until you find one that fits. If you honestly believe you could improve your self-confidence by wearing an A-line halter dress, and then use your belief to motivate you to give it a try. Expose your insecurities about your appearance by trying on clothing you normally wouldn’t wear.
Don’t Forego the Essence of Who You Are
You shouldn’t give up on the most essential parts of who you are. Just because you are improving your appearance doesn’t mean you have to deny what make you who you are. Maintaining true to yourself and holding firm to your personality adds to progressing to a better you.
Be Open-minded and Flexible
Recognize what looks good on you. Be open to trying new styles and colors. Avoid being closed-minded, especially when it comes to trying on a larger size. You could make yourself appear younger and slimmer by being open to trying on a larger size and a different fit.
Try It On
Often, when we visit stores, we become immediately drawn to a certain look on a mannequin. But do your best to avoid making clothing purchases before you try them on. Even though trying on is more time consuming, you save money by purchasing clothing you will actually wear. Fighting the strong temptation of buying clothing without trying it on increases the amount of clothing in your closet, which you in fact wear.
Keep a List
You know what you desire and what you need in your closet. Create a list of your needs and wants. Make a note of non-negotiable items. Don’t forget items that will make you happy. If the item doesn’t meet your criteria, then be willing to leave it in the store. Overemphasizing the small stuff should be avoided.
Trust Yourself
Determine what clothing makes you feel great inside. Be completely honest with yourself. If you are having second thoughts about purchasing a Jimmy Choo handbag, follow your instincts and move on. Give yourself time to make your move.
