We Should not Count Wise People

We should not count wise people
Dalip Singh Wasan, Advocate.

It is said that when God was sending this man on this earth, He told in the ears of man that he is the most beautiful, most handsome, most intelligent, most wise and most well-behaved person ever created on this earth and it is also said that God assured the man that He would not create such person henceforth. That is the reason everyone on this earth believes that he is most handsome, most beautiful, most intelligent and the wisest person in the world. And with this believe in his mind, this man lives on and completes his life span which had been given to him by God. And had this belief not been there in his mind, this man would not lived such a long life.
The man on this earth cannot be happy because his brain has got so many pressures and these pressures are from all the sides. He is under pressure from the side of his own health, from the side of his own position in the society, from the side of his family, from the side of his work place, from the side of his financial position, from the side of his position in the society and these pressures are not allowing him to live a free life. Even doctors are telling him that he is under pressures and they are administering him drugs which are keeping him at peace and for the time being he forgets all about his ownself. They are administering him intoxicants which are most necessary for the man because all spoken advices passed through his ears and he could not adopt those methods which the saints and other religious people had been advising him.
And today the man is under more pressures because we are compelled to live in these competitive circumstances where everyone of us is running a race and everyone is obliged to run the race so that he may not be left behind. Prices are rising and even demands are rising because of developments in the fields of science and technology. We all want new things for our daily use and even our children and other members of the family are demanding these articles and when we are not having money, they rebuke us and condemn us weak and inferior person who has established a family, but now he is not in a position to provide these articles to the members of the family who are wholly dependant upon him.
Today the man is living in a crowd and therefore, his life is not safe. He cannot have his morning and evening walks because his life is under a danger and someone shall hit him and shall turn him handicapped. We know that death rates through accidents is on the higher side and such state of affairs are not allowing this man to live a save and happy life. Today this man laughs but if we go deep and see on his face, we shall be surprised to note that a living person is not laughing, but a dead body is standing before us and is laughing.
Today none is living a free life and therefore, we should expect from this man that he shall be happy and shall be a free person. And till we are happy and satisfied with our life, we are not in a position to turn wise and intelligent. We should not expect such turning points in our life. A man under pressures shall never be able to utilize his wisdom fully and therefore, we can say that the man of today is living a life of fools and that is the reason most of them are not happy. They are sad and the people who are trying to turn them wise are themselves on the wrong path. They are just collecting money and they are not interested in the well being of the people around them. The number of educated people, the number of trained people, the number of experts is increasing, but we must accept that we are not increasing the number of wise people on this earth. The conditions and situations which are being created by us shall never allow this man to grow wise and utilize his wisdom.

Mr. Wasan's conclusion is very pessimistic. It is true that the anti-humane forces that prevail today are so powerful and prevalent that wisdom will be predominately undervalued. This being said I do believe that there will always be a place for wisdom. It may be small and hidden like the pearl in the clam shell, but nonetheless it is still there and when discovered it be the most treasured tool, an axis for living.
