The Marshall Thundering Herd football team has a schedule that's varied but not the kind of variation you want to see in a team you're rooting for to make it to the top. Still, all in all, the Thundering Herd has made some noise in more than a few venues including their own, on their quest to stampede their way to as many wins as possible. The season opened with Thundering Herd taking on Southern Illinois at home back at the beginning of September and they bolted through to a win 31-28. Virginia Tech was just as determine not to be defeated in the next game and the Thundering Herd went home empty-handed with a loss 52-10. In Memphis, Thundering Herd won 27-16 but the tables turned on them in the next game against East Carolina at home and they loss 21-17. Heading off to New Orleans, Tulane hosted the Thundering Herd and were rewarded with defeat 31-10. West Virginia won on their home turf against the Herd 24-7 but UAB couldn't get past a few points and lost 27-7. Although they have just four more games before the Conference USA Championship event on December 5, the Thundering Herd can still live up to their name by winning the remaining games against UCF on November 1, Southern Miss on November 14, SMU on November 21 and UTEP on November 28. Fans are supportive and optimistic as are the players and coaches but the truth wears no disguise and for the Thundering Herd there's truth in the belief that this team has not put forth it's best game at all times.Darius Marshall, Martin Ward, Andre Booker, Terrell Edwards and Cody Slate are currently the top ranking players on the stats list. Darius is miles ahead with a rushing average of 136.0 per game. In honor of the philanthropist Joan Edwards, this stadium was named the Joan C. Edwards Stadium. Built in 1991 with a seating capacity of 30,000, after two expansions, the capacity has grown to 55,000. Just before the 2005 season, FieldTurf was installed along with a state of the art scoreboard that offers high definition statistical displays and has video capabilities. Today fans can choose from seating options that include 20 luxurious sky suites that offer a plush alternative to outdoor seating for those who choose and don't mind sparing the expense. Joan C. Edwards Stadium has hosted NCAA Division-IAA National Championship games and Mid-American Conference Championship contests for many consecutive years.This semi-circular shaped stadium offers handicapped seating in sections 104, 105, 107, 108, 118, 122, 123 and 130. The band is situated next to section 130 and just in front of sections 225, 227, 229 and 236 so if you like the rip roaring sound, you'll want to choose seating near these areas. The visiting team is given seating preference in section 101 and 103 and Marshall students congregate in sections 116, 117, 119, 121 and 221, 223 so expect plenty of school spirit from this area of the stadium.Press box seating and club suites are located just above the area where cameras are situated. For children who join the Big Green Kids Club, there are many different benefits including one end zone ticket to select football games. It doesn't matter if it will be your first game at the Joan C.
