Affiliate Marketing Guide – Beginning Steps

You've heard about it, you've seen it written about, people making money via the internet from the comfort of their own home. So what is it all about, how do you go about making money online? Read below on how to make a lot of money online.

Let's start right at the very beginning and first cover exactly what Affiliate Marketing is. Affiliate marketing in simple terms means that you sell or get leads for other peoples/companies goods or product. There are hundreds of companies that provide affiliate services, for example, select a product, i.e. "Dog Food", go to the search engines and type "dog food affiliate programme". You'll see hundreds, if not thousands of companies that are providing affiliate services. These companies allow you to sign up as affiliates, they will then pay you commission for every sale you provide them. These sales are made by you sending customers to their site or product.

If done correctly Affiliate Marketing can make you a very good income, for many people the money that can be made can certainly provide you with a good lifestyle, for some it can become a full time occupation.

How To Make Money

The first part of making money online is to research what you are going to promote/sell. This is probably the most important part of the whole process, because if you pick the wrong item, no matter how well you advertise, the product just won't sell.

The process of finding your product, or niche as known in the affiliate marketing world can be performed by simply going to a site such as eBay, if you look at eBay Pulse, you'll find a daily snapshot of current trends, hot picks, and cool stuff on eBay. From here you'll be able to find the things people are buying.

Once you've found 6-7 items or areas where things are selling well, you'll then need to perform a keyword research on these items/areas. Keyword research will provide you with the information you need to see if the niche you have chosen can be profitable. It will provide you with useful information such as how much your chosen niche is searched for on the internet, how many other people are trying to promote that product/word. The basic rule of thumb when performing keyword research that I prefer to use is that the term your using, for example "coach handbags", has up to at least 1000 searches a month, but has less than 20,000 competition. This means in simple terms that if there are over 20,000 people promoting your chosen product/word, you may have a very hard time promoting your product over the search engines. This is not strict rule, but if you stay close enough to this rule, your chances of succeeding in affiliate marketing are much greater.

Once you have your product/niche researched, you're ready to start promoting. Now there are many ways to promote your product, ranging from free blogs, PPC, banner ads and of course your own website.

By far the most successful way and popular way of starting to make money online as an affiliate is done by creating your own website. Please don't get stressed by this, making a website with today's technology is no longer a complicated procedure. Nearly all website creating software available today  you can simply choose some pre-made templates, add your content then click publish, sounds easy, well my friend, thankfully it is.
