Affiliate Marketing: Surviving the Online Jungle

All affiliate marketers are looking for the successful program that will give the biggest returns. Some marketers think there is a magic formula. However, the reality is far more complicated than that. In affiliate marketing, as in all businesses, it is good marketing practices proven over years of hard work and determination that are likely to lead to success. There are methods that have worked before with online marketing and it is those methods that will continue to work in the online affiliate marketing world of today.

There is a temptation by affiliate marketers to try to fill up one website with numerous affiliate marketing programs. The biggest problem with this scenario is most of these affiliate programs are not complementary to each other. In fact, very often, people new to affiliate marketing join so many programs that some are in competition with each other. This creates a huge credibility problem if they are all located on the same website. It will be obvious to most people that you are more interested in making money off of them than you are in filling the buyer's needs.

Some even try to pass off sites like these as "affiliate directories" or one-stop-shopping sites, but this tactic rarely proves successful.

Filling a prospective buyer's needs is the surest way to big profits in affiliate marketing, so keep that as your focus. Do not lump all of your programs together just to save some money on web hosting.

Always include product reviews on the website so visitors will have an initial understanding on what the product can do for those who buy them. Include testimonials from users who have already tried the product. Offering a valuable incentive is an easy way to get people to provide a testimonial.

Writing articles that highlight the uses of the product or service should also be included on your website as an additional page. Make these pages attractive and compelling and include calls to act on the information. Each headline should entice the readers to read more. Use graphics to highlight the special points. This will help your readers to learn what the page is about and they will want to find out more.

Offer free reports or e-books to your readers. If possible position them at the very top of your page so it they simply cannot be missed. Create autoresponder messages that will be mailed to those who sign up, or opt-in. Remember, the money is in the list, so you want to be able to contact as many of the visitors who come to your site. According to research, a sale is closed usually on the seventh contact with a prospect.

By placing useful information into their inboxes at certain specified period, you will remind them of the product they may decide to purchase down the road. Be sure that the content is directed toward specific reasons to buy the product but do not make it sound like a sales pitch. As much as possible, avoid using the word "free" because there are still older spam filters that dumps this kind of content into the junk folder before anyone has a chance to read them. Optimizing delivery is the key to any email campaign.

You must get to know your target audience. If the person who visited your website has no interest whatsoever in what you are offering, they will be among those who move on and never come back. Write articles for publication in e-zines and e-reports.

Always remember that only 1 out of 100 people are likely to buy your product or get your services. If you can generate as much as 1,000 targeted hits for your website in a day that means you can made 10 sales based on the average statistic.

The tactics given above do not really sound very difficult to do, if you think about it. It just requires a little time and an action plan on your part.

Try to use these tips for all of your affiliate marketing programs. You can end up creating a good source of income and surviving in this business and that is not something all marketers can do.
