Affiliate marketing is a proven business model that works. If done correctly it is possible to make an awful lot of money. However done wrong it can turn into a lot of hard work for very little return. The good news is it is not difficult to find good affiliate marketing training that will help you to succeed, anyone can do it, there are no secrets. Having said that there are a few closely guarded techniques, read on to find my top 5 things that successful affiliates don't want you to know.

1. There are no magic tricks.

No matter what the author of the latest over hyped internet marketing information product would like you to believe, there are no magic techniques you can use that will skyrocket your income for little or no effort. Any product you see that makes that claim should ring alarm bells and be given a wide berth.

Affiliate marketing is a business, and as such it will take effort and work to be successful. You do need training and information like any profession you may consider. However be careful where you get it, use due diligence and search for other peoples opinions before you invest in training. Use internet marketing forums rather than review sites, as you are much more likely to get an accurate response from forums especially from people who may have bought the product you are considering. Review sites are much more likely to be trying to sell the product and less motivated to give a truly accurate picture.

2. Social networking can harm your business.

Social networking sites are a great place to promote your affiliate business, but beware how you go about it. It is all too easy to be seen as a spammer if you just post links and don't get involved in the site.

The key word here is social, you should get involved in the site, be social, and use it to find a group of people that will be receptive to the offer that you are promoting. Don't just sell though, interact with people, share useful tips, get involved. When you do promote your site your new 'friends' are much more likely to visit and buy.

Using social sites to over promote can harm you more than help you, as a spam label is a very difficult one to shake.

3. CPA Offers can bring easy money.

CPA or cost-per-action offers can often be an easy sale, as you will get paid when your site visitor clicks on your link and completes the prescribed action. Usually this will involve filling out a form or leaving their e-mail address. As no money will change hands there is one less obstacle before you get paid.

Some of these offers pay very well, and are great way to monetize your site. This relatively new and highly profitable business model is a prime example of something that successful affiliates don't want you to know.

4. Anyone can do this.

This is very true, as with the right quality training it truly is a business anyone can get involved in. You need no premises, no product of your own, no inventory to keep in stock, and very little start-up capital. You don't even need a website to start, although this is something you should invest in early in your affiliate marketing career.

5. Never try to sell

As an affiliate marketer it is not your job to sell. It is your job to get the visitor to visit the product vendors sales page, and it is their job to sell. You should concentrate on providing quality content on your pages that will be of value to your visitor. Within this content as part of your service you should suggest the product as a solution to your readers problem. This gentle pre sell is the best way to make sure of a good conversion rate from the traffic you send to the product vendor.

If you follow these tips that successful affiliates don't want you to know, and invest in some quality affiliate marketing training, there is no reason why your business wont be a success and you will soon be joining the ranks of the super affiliate.
