It is not only the appearance but a general feeling that arises due to the proximity of the services provided by them. As one can see it is a negative feeling and can hurt an affiliate business.
Apart from the resemblance in the look and feel of the affiliate websites, there have been several tricks played by some website owners. The owners or publishers tend to make more than one website, featuring same content and services and then avail the service of the merchants. No doubts that they churn some good money out of it but that practice itself hurts a lot of others. Such a practice is popularly called duplicity, which is more than a dupe for many.
The real challenge that is faced by the affiliates is to counter both the threats and create a brand image and identity of their own. The affiliates at present are looking forward to maintain a unique style and design, one that will be different than the existing ones. The limitation to bring more in terms of creativity and originality is bearing upon the affiliate sites.
At present the affected affiliate websites are trying out innovative presentations and designs. But despite all modification and changes the users are feeling disappointed about so many similar websites serving the same purpose. In other words audience rating has been dropping and it is unlikely that such websites will make it after a large number of owners join the league.
