I’m sure you’ve heard and read it all. Stuff like work in your pajamas at home, work two hours per week, own a Mercedes in 15 days. By now we all know that’s all a bunch of phooie malooie. It’s a proven fact that over 90% of all home business’ fail within the first 60 days. At first it is very exciting, you have a new website with lot’s of great content and plenty of glitz and glimmer. Then you come to the realization that no one is coming there and spending tons of money. The most difficult issue is a practical way of generating not only traffic to the website but quality, buying traffic.

The first thing we all have to remember is that the worldwide web was designed to be an information source. The Information Highway was put together for those who are seeking to entertained or educated. Web surfers want to read the news, watch videos, and scan their emails or obtain data for a project or idea. When a person logs onto the Internet they generally are not seeking to purchase anything. Think about it! How many times have you gone into a store to just look around with no plans of purchasing anything? Then you see it, that item that just sparked you interest. You think OK, I’ll come back next week after I think about it. It’s called Justification in your mind. The Internet works the same way. There are new rules for being successful in the field of marketing. Rule Number 1: People are not looking to spend money on the web. Rule Number 2: Conventional advertising does not work. Rule Number 3: If you are attempting to advertise conventionally YOU WILL FAIL.

Conventional advertising and Internet advertising is very expensive. Case in point; Google!!! Google has not only become a verb it has also become extremely expensive. Don’t get me wrong. Google is a proven successful advertising source, however they have figured it out also and charge accordingly. During the early years when I was advertising on Google, their pay per click program was affordable and effective. It’s not that I do not recommend Google it’s just if you are not familiar with the internal workings you could lose big dollars really fast. Pay Per Click requires many months of fine tuning and learning to be successful.

In today’s world of “I want it now” you had better have a ton of money to start an Internet business if you consider it a race instead of a journey. The theory of making a million dollars in 2 weeks is just not true. I know, you have heard story after story of people striking it rich on the web and some have, but very few! Most of those that have made good money have done so by building an online business by diversifying into multiple products, search engine optimization, article submission, ezine ads, blogs, and forums and auto responders for customer follow up. This program is some what complicated yet extremely easy. You just have to remember that it isn’t a race, no matter how excited you are. Learn then apply, sit your ego on the shelf and associate yourself with those that are successful.

Dedication, Commitment, and Truth, are easy words to throw around and have been used by many that failed on the Internet. It is easy to say I am committed, but after a few evenings of hours on the computer after working all day at your regular job your enthusiasm begins to wane. You have to learn to pace yourself. I urge to not plod into any project without complete confidence in your product, your knowledge, and yourself. Dedicate your mind and soul to project and find friends and relatives that are supportive of your endeavor. Explain to them your thoughts and ideas and ask their opinion. If they are negative nellies avoid them while doing your thing.
