These days, it is extremely easy to participate in affiliate programs to generate online residual income. Setting up a website is child’s play. And when it’s time for your website to deliver the goods, affiliate program’s come in to help.
Affiliate programs, also referred to as associate programs, are agreements in which a company pays the affiliate web sites a commission to sell their products. The websites carry pictures, links, or descriptions advertising the products, and for every sale that happens through the website, the owner receives a pre determined commission amount. In some cases, commission is paid out for every visitor to the website, irrespective of the sale.
If you are thinking about getting into an affiliate program, you have to first learn how to choose the right affiliate program. Ask questions and get the answers before you pick an affiliate program to join. A little research will go a long way in securing a nice profit for you.
Does the program charge anything as joining fee? Most affiliate programs are offered absolutely free of charge. You may be wasting money if you choose a program which needs you to deposit some money before you join.
What is their payment schedule? There are various payment methodologies out there in the market-weekly, quarterly or payment after a minimum commission is earned. Select the company that is best suited to your payment time choice.
Understand the statistics of the affiliate program. What is the number of hits to a banner or text link it takes to generate a sale? The answer to this question will help you figure out the amount of traffic that needs to be directed to your site.
How does the referral from the affiliate’s site work? You have to know exactly how the company tracks the people you refer from your site. That is the key to get the credit for the sale. Sometimes people visit a site, but only buy something months down the line. Do you still get credit for the sale?
Check the profile of the company you choose to affiliate with. Understand the products they sell. Is it a solid company with an outstanding reputation? Will the audience of your website be interested in the products of the company? There should be a match between the product and your audience. You should not end up losing your existing audience.
Does the company allow two tier referrals? A two tier program will get you credit for sales that an affiliate sponsored by you makes. Sometimes, you can even get a recruitment fee for enrolling new affiliates.
What is the commission that you’ll receive upon making a sale? Does an impression also get paid?
Most importantly, you have to have a personal interest in the product that the company wants you to advertise. If you have a personal conviction in the product, it will help you advertise the product better.
