If you are looking into affiliate marketing you might wonder what the difference is between those that succeed and those that do not. As you surf information on the Internet you'll read many success stories but you'll also come across stories of failure and even warnings that tell you that affiliate marketing just doesn't seem to work well. It doesn't matter who you are, you can succeed with affiliate marketing if you really put your mind to it. Don't be scared of the stories of failure, if affiliate marketing didn't take some work everyone would be doing it and making a lot of money, too!
Set Yourself Up For Success
Succeeding with affiliate marketing isn't about setting up your affiliate system or becoming an affiliate for another merchant, there is much more to it than that. First, you should learn what affiliate marketing is all about. You will find a wealth of information all over the Internet as well as plenty of resources in your local bookstore. If there is anything about the business that you do not understand you should seek the answers before you get in over your head. Knowing all about affiliate marketing, including all the ins and outs, and feeling confident in your knowledge will truly allow you to set yourself up for success.
Create a Plan
After you have learned everything you need to learn about affiliate marketing to get started you will want to put together a plan for your success. This can be a day to day plan if that is how you work best or it can simply be monthly or even quarterly goals. These can be monetary goals or they can relate to how many affiliate accounts that you have if you are a merchant or how many affiliate companies you are aligned with if you are not a merchant. Setting goals and creating a plan is simply a good idea because it gives you something to look forward to and something to keep aiming for. If you don't have a plan or goals you can put things off and that can take away from your level of success in the end.
Tap into Your Determination
When you create a plan you will really have to tap into your determination. You shouldn't just set goals that you can reach easily, you should create goals for yourself that will require you to push and really try hard. Goals such as this will allow you to maximize your earning potential through affiliate marketing but it will also require you to tap into your determination. If you are not determined to make affiliate marketing work for you it probably won't. You have to really want affiliate marketing to work and be determined to do everything you have to do to get there! Determination and corresponding goals are usually what separate those that succeed with affiliate marketing from those that do not.
When you put all of these things together you will find that it is quite simple to be a success at affiliate marketing. There is no doubt about it, affiliate marketing does require some time, some work, and definitely a determination to succeed but you can earn quite a bit of money if you put your mind to it. Put all of these things together and you will watch as your affiliate marketing business takes off right before your eyes!

It was with much interest that I read the report on the Netimperative Directors? Dinner discussing the golden age of digital marketing.
I completely agree that the marketing profession faces many challenges in its ambition to be taken seriously at the highest levels of business. As the various speakers highlighted, one of the key challenges is the perception of what marketing is.
Recent research carried out for The Chartered Institute of Marketing by Ipsos MORI revealed that 73 per cent of working marketers surveyed believed there was a large gap between the reality of what marketing does and how it is seen by other parts of the business.
Until marketing is recognised as a key driver of value in organisations, it will struggle to gain the respect of other professional business colleagues. However, marketing must earn that respect.
As highlighted by several speakers, marketers must reach out to colleagues in other functions and those at a senior level, and communicate clearly with them the value they create for the organisation, in terms they understand ? which in boardrooms is predominantly financial.
The Institute continues to promote the profession and attempt to change attitudes towards marketing in the wider business community. It has established links with various government departments to promote professional marketing, and has developed professional marketing standards that employers can benchmark their employees against.
The drive towards proper recognition and respect for the vital role marketing has to play in today?s organisations has to start with greater accountability and clearly demonstrating the value marketers create.
I am in no doubt that digital marketing, with its greater measurability, will be in the vanguard of marketers? increasing acceptance at the top table.

I'm looking to establish a direct affiliate relationship between myself (the affiliate) and one specific retailer that I deal with regularly. They're not looking for any other affiliates other than myself, but I need this to be a software-based solution. Anybody know of any generic code out there that I could modify and pass off to the partner? Are there any other solutions that don't involve paying huge upfront costs, or a recurring commission to a 3rd party network? Your help is greatly appreciated!
