Direct marketing has been the most approved and adopted marketing methods in many countries. It has an advantage of reaching the audience directly in the first place. Over the years different marketing methods and approaches of direct marketing have been tried. One of the latest additions has been that of online affiliate marketing.
Online or Internet affiliate marketing is the marketing where the promotion is done by an owner of a web site or blog. Since the engagement of the customer takes place on the web site and with his own efforts, affiliate marketing is considered to be very affective.
The initiation of affiliate marketing is done by the advertiser or merchant, who makes the program for affiliates. There are a number of programs affiliates can choose from. Every program offers some exclusive deal, though the incentives are more or less the same. With fairly large number of programs, affiliates often go for multiple programs. There are some affiliate programs that does not allow the participation for the competitor, but mostly the programs allow it.
Merchants and advertisers also go for a significant number of affiliates. In fact the merchants are associated with hundreds and thousands of web site publishers. Not all of them are active affiliates all the times.
Affiliate programs may also be developed and provided by affiliate networks and marketing agencies. The programs are meant for both affiliates as well as merchants. The network or agency acts as the facilitator; it is the affiliate and the merchant who are involved in the marketing process.
A web site owner can earn anywhere between $100 to $10,000 in a month. It depends on the programs the affiliate has selected, the commissions, affiliate's web site and the strategies he adopts. It is because of the big price tag that web site owners are interested in affiliate marketing.
As long as there are good program affiliate would rather stay with this choice. They may need time to stabilize, but that is one opportunity that seems worth the wait.
