If you want to start an online business, but don't have your own product to sell, then affiliate marketing is the perfect thing for you. Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money, by promoting other people's products and receiving a commission for every sale made. But, even as affiliate marketing can truly bring you lots of money, this won't happen over night. Building a business takes time, and that's what this is, a business. If you treat it like one it will bring great rewards, and if you will see it like a hobby, something to look after from now and then, you won't get anything out of it.

Like any other business start up,affiliate marketing is no exception, meaning that you will need to spend some money, so that you learn the ropes. By reading this article and writing a realistic budget, taking account of the capital that you have,your initial costs will be reduced, and you can start your affiliate business at a low cost. It's your decision to how much you'll invest in your business. Keep in mind, though, that the amount of money and time spent building your affiliate business will determine the rate of your success.

Now, let's see 4 items that you will have to make a budget for (but we'll stick to the low cost affiliate marketing strategy):

Merchant Account.

A merchant account allows you to start accepting credit card payments for customer purchases. This will earn your company a solid reputation and enhance the shopping experience for your customers. You don't have to pay a lot of money to open the merchant account. If you do a little research, you'll find lots of merchant accounts that have a good value and really fit your low cost affiliate marketing business.

Do some checking, ask other people, on forums, what merchant account do they use, and compare prices to get the best merchant account available for your business. You owe this to your customers, who, in return, will stay at your website longer and increase shop more from you. When you give them good reasons to come back, and your website looks professional, it's no wonder that you'll have a lot of happy customers.

Software.

You will need a tracking software, that takes care of all the dirty work for you. You need to track your incoming traffic and you have to know where is that traffic coming from. Knowing which method of getting targeted traffic gets the best results for you, makes you more efficient in gathering more and more traffic. Also, you have to have a written plan for your the expenses that you will make (the absence of this one will make things blurry and you'll tend to spend money on unnecessary things). A software for tracking the income from your affiliate business is also a must have (for this you can search for a cheap program that is efficient or even a use a free one, like a simple Microsoft Excel ).

Set your expenses for the whole year, because this the best way to keep them under control. If you find that the grand total is pretty large, don't be scared, remember that we're talking a year's time here! If you truly want to have a real money making business, you must treat it as one. You must invest before you receive, but you won't have to invest as much as in a normal business, and that's a big plus for an online business. Invest, but remember that you are on a low cost affiliate marketing budget here!

Advertising.

Anyone that runs a business knows that advertising is the oxygen that assures the survival of that business. Even if you have a product that you know everyone needs and wants to buy, without advertising, it's just an idea that's not going anywhere. In affiliate marketing things look the same, except that here, on the internet, you can advertise your (low cost) affiliate marketing business at a very low cost and sometimes even free!

Do a research for the best ways to advertise your business, and don't exclude the free ones like: joining up with owners of ezines, complementary products to yours, etc - this can be very effective.

Education.

This is the most important aspect of your business. You, as the owner of your business have to educate yourself so that the rapid changes in internet marketing don't find you unprepared. Go to seminars, buy books, listen to audios and watch videos! Do this continuously and your paycheck will grow along with you and your business!

For starters you can take the low cost learning ways (you can learn for free, too!) by subscribing to newsletters, getting free reports, joining free or low cost memberships( there are some great free or cheap memberships that offer you audios and videos that you normally had to pay for!). All you have to do is get out there and start searching for answers until you find them!

Affiliate marketing is a great way to create a business on the internet, but there is work involved (especially if you want to start a low cost affiliate marketing business) and you do need to learn and grasp the basics before you set off on your online quest. Learn how to choose the best affiliate programs (by going to blogs and forums and asking people that are involved in affiliate marketing). If you do manage to join a good affiliate program that has lots of learning material and that is helping you grow, then you can truly say that success is just around the corner!

These are just some of the things you can watch out for when starting a low cost affiliate marketing business. Now that you know what to do, you can take the long and painful road of searching the best hosting company, the best ways to educate yourself or the most reliable software or... you can take the easy road and choose a verified system like the one you'll find in the bio box bellow!
