Affiliate marketing has been a very effective way to make money online. Many Internet business owners do nothing but sell affiliate products and make five and six figure incomes. Just some of the advantages are listed below:
1. You do not need a website. This makes it an ideal way to start your online business on a limited budget.
2. You don’t have to worry about creating your own product. The merchant takes care of this for you.
3. You don’t have to set up your own sales page. Creating a sales page that converts well is one of the most challenging aspects for any online business. As an affiliate marketer, your merchant will take care of designing a quality sales page.
4. The merchant is responsible for shipping the product to the customer.
5. You do not need to keep track of sales, products, or website hits. Most of the large affiliate companies keep track of this information for you and will send out your checks on a regular basis.
6.There are no commitments on your part. You have complete control of which products you promote and for how long.
7. You can register with an affiliate company free of charge and start promoting right away. This is a significant advantage if you are starting a new business on a shoestring.
But unfortunately, all is not roses in the affiliate marketing game. There are also some disadvantages:
1. Your only job is to refer visitors to the merchant’s sales page. Although this may sound easy, it is not. Developing traffic can be a very time intensive and laborious process. As an alternative, you can pay others to develop traffic, but this can be expensive.
2. If you are doing it yourself, you must work continually on generating traffic.
3. For each sale that you generate as an affiliate, you receive just a percentage of the sale proceeds. If you had your own product, you would keep 100% of the profits.
