Training Your Affiliate Downline: Lead And They Will Follow

  • Related Q&A

Just as an army without a general is lost, so can your downline be if you do not provide effective leadership to them. While some of your team members may be self-sufficient and will make do, others may not. Even those who are self-sufficient will still want to become "better" internet-marketers through your leadership.

When you lead your affiliate team towards a common goal a feeling of "we're in this together" develops within the group. This is especially true when you take the lead and initiate regular meetings, online or offline, with your team members. When you lead a virtual or in-person meeting with your marketers, you show them you are a leader who cares. When your team feels you have their best interests at heart, they perform better. When you lead them as a group, they execute as a group.

With you as an affiliate-marketing leader, you can be that mentor that introduces the team concept. No longer does your downline have to think of themselves as isolated marketers who must go it alone with out support. You and the rest of the team are any one individual's support network. You will connect more effectively with your downline as a whole when you instill in them the idea of a team working to achieve a goal.

Motivating your team requires you showing them how success is achievable. You must lead by example, showing them techniques for running their affiliate business efficiently. You must explain to them mistakes you made in the past and how you want to help them avoid them. A downline team that sees they can avoid some mistakes will find inspiration knowing they will not experience setbacks that you did. Knowledge you impart to them to save them problems will inspire them to move forward without fear. They will appreciate your leadership and work hard to give back to you.

When you connect with you downline and seek their input to plan marketing initiatives you further develop the team concept. If two heads are better than one, than a pow-wow with many heads, sharing ideas is even better. With your downline sharing ideas, concerns, and concepts, in an open forum then everyone feels they have a say. When the team as a whole, and individually, experiences success, they can revel in the rewards together. Your actions in having the downline plan together for success causes them to put in the effort to achieve that success. Each member knows he or she is accountable to you and to each other. They do not want to perform as the weak chain in the link.

Connecting with your downline through effective leadership allows your team to execute their duties properly. You, through your group training have prepared them for battle in the ultra-competitive internet marketplace. They will execute wisely because you gave them the tools they need to perform. You also gave them access to each other as team members, so they could learn even more. With all this advice from multiple sources, they are inspired and well versed in what they need to do. Therefore, you and they benefit due to strength of numbers. This can only help drive your affiliate program revenue and theirs too.

Developing a team attitude in your business allows others to spend time helping a downline member when you're unavailable. In this way, your team sustains itself whether you're actively working with them or not. As well, motivating your downline to perform as a team means they will likely stay with your program longer. Attrition will lessen when your downline performs as a team with common goals. The whole team environment that you head will be a supportive atmosphere that encourages success. Why would anyone want to leave that kind of situation? A supportive group working together to build each other's income sounds like a smart way to do business.

"Lead and They Will Follow" is the mantra you must instill in your own mind. In your downline's mind, you must instill the teamwork mindset. When you and your team think and act towards a pre-defined common goal, you will reach that goal, together. Then you can stop and celebrate, and then begin formulating new goals, again, together.
