What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is marketing online, to your group of prospects and customers. Affiliate is a great way to earn more money.  As a marketer, you will promote someone else’s product and in return they pay you commission as a percentage of the cost of the product. A business or product owner will start an affiliate program to get people to help sell their products. Each affiliate marketer that signs up for the program receives a unique ID which they use in their links. When their customers click on this link and buy a product, the sale is recorded under the marketers’ name and thus he/she earns the commission.

Commissions come in 2 main forms: one time commission or a recurring commission. A onetime commission refers to the commission received only once after you made a sale; while a recurring commission refers to sales made monthly, for example, membership sites. Another aspect of the commission is how much percentage does the business or product owner pays you. A typical percentage for digital product would be 50-70%, while selling physical products would pay much lesser.

Remember to read all the rules of the program you have chosen. They may have specific requirements, for example, owners may not want their name used in your website; or they do not want you to over claim on the benefits of their products.

When choosing your affiliate program, choose one that you are interested in and have knowledge about. The more passionate you are in this program, the more likely you will do well!
