No-Till Farming: Innovative Method That Is Scientifically Proven

The term ‘No-till farming' may be surprising to many. The farming without tilling is indeed a surprising term but this is the farming method which is being used since centuries. However, its multiple benefits were indentified, proved and published during last couple of decades. Under this farming method, filed is not tilled or ploughed thoroughly. The cavities for sowing the crops are tilled by special means and in special manner.

No-till farming is known in the circles as zero tillage farming also. The advantages of zero tillage farming are being realized by the individual farmers and large size farm owners both. Recently, agriculture researchers established that no-tillage farming makes the farm soil more stable if compared with traditionally full tilling method of farming. Zero -tilling stores much more carbon content in the soil. Carbon content present in the farming soil is the much desired property for holding the different soil particles intact. The very first inch of soil under no-till farming method soil is about 2-7 times less vulnerable if compared to that of completely tilled soil as is done in conventional farming method. No-tillage farming practice is more beneficial for the farm owners who have plain fields. Conventional farming method of 100% tilling leads to many unfavorable effects. Loss of organic matter; degradation of soil's aggregates; soil compaction; disruption of soil's organisms including microbes, earthworms, arthropods and mycorrhiza etc are just few to name. No-tilling farming avoids most of these possibilities because the soil is not disturbed and most of the portion is left untilled in natural form.

There are many benefits of no-tillage farming. Farmers have realized these at their individual level. However, there are some who don't seem satisfied after switching over to this farming technique. But, there are many other practical reasons responsible for this failure. Most of farm owners think this farming method easy. These farmers pay little attention towards the technical aspects of this farming method. No-till farming seems simple and less expensive; and it is really so but it needs particular attentions towards many aspects.

You cannot take the benefits of no-till farming granted. You need to do this as per recommended process. The first switchover may show some drop in total annual yield but don't worry much. This is time needed by farm soil to get accustomed to this new method. Most of farmers who switch over to this farming method realized significant boost in their income from second crop onwards. If you want to make your farming profession more profitable, try no-till farming that is scientifically proven.
