8 Ways to Protect Yourself From Disease

Today there are so many factors in keeping or obtaining good health. Some we can control and some we can't. Toxins are everywhere including our air, water, our homes and food. What can you do to protect your health? Here are 8 practical tips.

1. Take control of your own life and health. Don't expect someone else to do it for you. Become a decision maker.

2. Drink plenty of pure water. Take your body weight and divide it by 2. That is the number of ounces you should drink daily. Check the internet for the best quality of bottled water or look for a filter system to install in your home. The reverse osmosis process in very acidic and is not recommended by most health educators, including myself. You can check that out on the web.

3. Don't use toxic sprays and cleaners to clean your home. You are actually filling your home with polluted air when you do that. There are companies who offer safe products, so you can keep your family breathing clean air. In addition, Air filters and purifiers are great to use.

4. Purchase Certified organic foods, not just those labeled organic. Stay away from or use a limited supply of processed foods including lunchmeat, hot dogs, carbonated drinks, coffee, alcohol, most canned foods and boxed foods. Now that doesn't leave much. It's the harmful preservatives used to lengthen the shelf life of the products, which include sulfates, monosodium glutamate and artificial sugars. Also check for how much sodium, sugar and fiber is in the product. Healthy American adults should eat no more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium a day. This is about 1 teaspoon of sodium chloride (salt). (http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4708). According to the Pharmacists' Network Exchange we should consume 3 grams or less of sugar per serving and as much fiber as possible. 20-30 grams of fiber per day is suggested.

5. Use quality dietary supplements. Because of all the toxins our bodies have to fight off, and the poor quality of the food we buy today, you don't really have an option on whether to add supplements to your diet, if you want to stay healthy. Because of the use of lots of fungicides and pesticides, our modern farming methods add more toxins to your body. Also, the picking of produce green causes them to lack many of the essential nutrients your body needs. Ask yourself this question - If the bugs and fungi won't eat it, how good do you think that food is for you? So try to buy fresh fruits and vegetables that are naturally grown or grow your own. An addition, use good supplements to help give your body what you are missing in your diet.

6. Exercise every day or every other day. Walking and stretching can be as effective as going to the gym and getting a workout. When you keep your body moving, you keep joints working better, your lungs expanding and your heart healthy.

7. Get enough rest. The average is 8 ½ hours per night. Your body heals and repairs while you sleep.

8. Keep your mind on good things. Have an attitude of gratitude and forgiveness. Worry, anger and stress work against your immune system. Find healthy ways to relax, like exercise, a hobby or a project you enjoy.

In summary, you can help your health by making positive decisions and creating habits that will improve your health and lengthen your life. For more information and tips, I can be reached at 715-484-2225 or email me at VitalCarbs4You@yahoo.com. I would love to hear from you.
