ADHD Children - Why Medication Should Be The Last Resort And What Is The Best Alternative?

Posted: Jan 08, 2011 |

As many as 30% of children with a learning disorder also are children with ADHD. Many experts are now saying that attention deficit disorder (ADD) kids have defects in their information processing system. It just does not work as it should which means that messages are not getting through. It is rather like a weak signal on your mobile phone. Experts now tell us that children with ADHD must be treated first for that condition before going on to treat or deal with the learning disorder (LD).

We are now reaching the happy position where a lot of doctors, child specialists are beginning to say that medication used for treating children with ADHD should be the last resort and not the first option. This is good news because while medication can resolve some of the symptoms of ADHD, there will be other problems it causes.

The main problems for children with ADHD on these meds such as Adderall, Ritalin or Strattera is that the actual side effects can be very disturbing and challenging. We also are uncomfortably aware that the meds are actually only suppressing the symptoms and not getting to the real cause of the problem. There is also a lot of doubt about their effectiveness in the long run. There must be an easier way.

Fortunately there is and many experts are recommending that these children should follow a behavior modification program with their parents, take some form of medication if necessary and increase green time, lessen media time and organize a reasonable diet. Once these things start working in synergy, many kids make fantastic progress. With this multi pronged approach, we are much more likely to get to grips with ADHD and equip kids for life.

ADHD homeopathic remedies as an alternative to psychostimulants are getting a lot attention recently. Why? The answer is that there are no side effects and there are none of the risks associated with the conventional medications. In addition, these preparations can restore the lost balance and therefore treat the problem holistically.

All of the ingredients in the homeopathic remedies are derived from plant or mineral sources. One of these is anacardium which comes from the cashew fruit. This can help with concentration and attention while also helping to make the child more sociable. Then we have the thorn apple known as stramonium which can help with temper outbursts, shyness and constant talking. The verta alb from the hellebore plant was used by ancient Greeks and is useful for those children who have problems with lying, cheating, defiance and being argumentative.

So, there you have it. What is your plan now? If you are tired of the all the problems associated with ADHD meds and want to find a much safer and easier option all round, why not actively consider homeopathic remedies and see what they can offer children with ADHD. As they are free from side effects and carry no health risks at all, your child will be in much safer hands.
